Phone card to use with pay phones

Do they make phone cards to use specifically with pay phones (phones that require you to put in 50 cents for a call)?

I'm in a situation that leaves me heavily dependent on pay phones for my communication needs and was wondering if there was a phone/calling card that I could buy that would have me paying less than 50 cents for a call within the US. I looked at a few normal ones that one can use to make international calls or cheap long distance calls and such and they usually have a 90 cent or such surcharge which defeats the purpose.

How can I call Ecuador on the cheap from a cellphone?

I need to call Ecuador. Hola, Ask MeFi! My girlfriend is in Ecuador until December. We e-mail back and forth every few days, but I'd also like to be able to call her at some point. Here are the complications:

A- I only have a cell phone. So land line only options are a NO GO! UNLESS!
-A i: I have a landline at work
-Aii: Our boss is generous with letting us abuse the postage machine and whatnot, but I think long-distance calls to South America are probably not a good issue to push on

So! Phone cards? 800 numbers? I've never called outside the continuous 48 before, so I'm completely dumb on the subject. Help!

Calling Card Services

Can anyone recommend a non scam calling card? I've tried online. I've tried buying them in 7-11s. In both cases I got told the rates were one thing and got charged 10-20 times more. What gives? [More Inside] I would like to keep in contact with a good friend in Togo, Africa. I know calling cards are supposed to be a good way to call without being charged way too much (especially as I've only got a cell phone) but I've been totally ripped off twice now. The cards claim they are from 15-25 cents a minute but 5 dollar cards somehow only last 2 minutes. Googling is totally useless as it seems the calling card people have totally overwhelmed any search even remotely related to calling cards. Does anyone have a decent non rip-off calling card site they can recommend? Being able to get pins online would be a big plus.
