How can I transfer files to/from a Motorola V3 Razr and a new Powerbook if the Bluetooth File Exchange seemingly can't do it? It recognizes the phone, but can't see the internal structure of the phone's storage system. Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools has no Mac version. I can sync contacts and calendars with iSync and via Bluetooth, but I have a friend who has the same phone, but the inverse problem: he can transfer files with Bluetooth, but can't get the phone to sync contacts and calendars.

I have Nextel and my cell phone reception is absolutely terrible at my house. What would be my best bet for improving my reception? I would rather not switch phone services because I would have to buy out my contract. I live in Mass. my area code is 781 and my zip is 01773 just in case that helps.

I just got screwed by a VOIP company. After a month of trying to reinstate a virtual number they accidently deleted, they’ve now confessed that they assigned it to someone else. I asked “What can you do to make this right”, and all they said was “we can give you a new phone number”. What official-type people can I complain to so I can get “The Rage” out of my system?

Cell phone surveillance... just heard what must be an urban myth: that police have the capability to use your cellphone as a listening device and that even if the power is off, that the device can be powered up remotely. The person who passed this information takes out his battery to ensure that his conversations are not monitored. I have heard of aliens monitoring brainwaves through metal fillings, but this seems over the top. Any truth?

Wanted: a relatively simple wired-to-the-wall phone with headset jack, message-waiting blinking light (phone company voicemail), speaker phone, and maybe a few speed-dial buttons (caller ID optional but preferred). Only need one line, no answering machine, no wireless. Does this phone exist?

Buying a new cell phone: I'm in the market for new cell phones and a shared plan, and I've noticed that most of the internet sellers are run by a company called
Inphonic. Does anyone have experience ordering through an Inphonic-powered seller? Does anyone have alternative suggestions that worked well for them?

Someone I know is getting multiple phone calls per day to their cell phone from an unlisted "Private Number" (so says the cell screen). The caller hangs up after about 10 seconds without saying anything. Nothing can be heard in the background, except possibly a rustling sound. Because of the nonresponse, it is unclear whether a human is making the call or if it is somehow automated.

Is there a VOIP service like Vonage that lets you choose your own phone number (not just the area code?) Vonage does not currently support such "vanity numbers." Note I am not trying to move a current phone number over but create a new one from scratch if it is available.

I recently installed the
greasemonkey script for Vonage users that turns phone numbers into URLs that when clicked, causes your phone to pick up and dial the number. I find this incredibly useful -- is there any kind of plug-in that will give me the same functionality within my Outlook address book?
