Could someone give me a rough estimate on how long I can expect my cell phone battery to last. I am sure there is a wide variance, but I am just looking for an average life expectancy. I use it every day and charge it in the evening. I use it approximately 3 hours a week. Thanks in advance.

I would REALLY like to be able to read Japanese web pages on it, but whenever I surf to a page with Japanese text it just shows up as garbage. I've installed Opera Mini on my phone, but that didn't help, even though the demo on their website does show Japanese characters. Is there any way to get this to work? I don't need to be able to type in Japanese, or send Japanese text messages. I just want to be able to read Japanese web pages. If I can't do this on the phone directly, then maybe there's another website I could visit that would convert the Japanese text to images?

I have an old cell phone...a Samsung SCH-T300 to be exact...but it has one feature that I haven't seen on any other new phone...or maybe I just haven't been looking hard enough. It has a sort of built-in answering machine. That is, instead of going to voicemail (which is on Verizon's server), it goes to an "answering machine" that's *on* the phone itself. This lets me do two things: I can actually listen to people's messages *as* they leave them and answer the phone if I choose, and I can listen to voicemail even when I have no signal (since it's stored on the phone). Help me mefi! Are there any current phones that have this feature?

I have been tethered to my SonyEricsson phones ever since I found the automatic profile switching in the Calendar preferences. Now, I sync my phone with my Powerbook, and my phone is always on silent when it needs to be. BUT...
I'm interested in possibly moving to a new phone brand, something with a very thin model. I like the Motorola iTunes phone that just came out, but as far as I know, Moto doesn't have anything like the feature I'm talking about. This isn't a feature that's widely touted for SonyEricsson phones, so I suspect there might be a couple other manufacturers out there that have this feature but it's not well-known.
I may just have to wait for Apple to come out with a phone. I'm sure it will happen, especially if they enter the MVNO arena.

I want to have my Panasonic ReplayTV ShowStopper (PV-HS2000) make its nightly outgoing calls to download the showtimes via my cell phone so that I can dump my landline. I have a Nokia 3650 and am using ATTWS/Cingular. How do I do this? [more inside]

Is there a current-gen cell phone that offers internal recording of conversations held on the phone, which can be activated and deactivated by the phone's owner mid conversation? I need to be highly available to conduct interviews over the next month and this would change 'impossible' to 'possible.' It would also sell me my first cell phone.

British MeFis - A friend's family is going to England from the US for a month, and they want to be able to keep in touch with each other while there. She's looking into cell phone deals over the internet, but everything's really expensive.
Would it be better for her to wait til she's there and buy or rent some cell phones that would hold them for the month? How's that all work over there?

CellPhilter. It's time for me to accept the leash and collar and get a cell phone. I know nearly nothing about the subject. I have some ideas on what I'd like. I found this thread, which has some helpful sites, but nothing that satisfies my curiosity. [m to the i]

Cellphones these days: do they make ones that will store my contacts (not just phone numbers, but addresses as well) and my calendar? And that can be sync'd with my PC? And (and this is key) aren't too terribly expensive?
