I am traveling on business to China (Guangzhou area) and Philippines (Manila). I have some international travel experience but none to Asia. I'll be working most of the time, so this isn't about sightseeing; it's more about, what are some lessons-learned, travel survival tips, etc., that you can share? Many thanks in advance.

I am trying to find out the name of a vessel that arrived at the Port of Long Beach from the Philippines on September 9, 2013, carrying a shipment of bananas (see details pasted below). Does anyone have access to any of the databases that might supply this info? It was possibly a Dole-owned/operated vessel, but even a list of all the arrivals at Long Beach (maybe narrowed to arrivals from the Phlippines or the specific departure port, again below) would be a good start. What kind of turtle is this
that my friend found crossing the street in Manila?
He brought the turtle to me knowing that my house is practically already an animal sanctuary, and not wanting it left in traffic, but I know nothing about turtles. It has a pointy nose and a relatively soft, tapered shell, and I assume it's a freshwater turtle? But it was found in Manila, in the street, nowhere near any ponds or lakes.

A while back, I read Noli Me Tángere
by José Rizal, which is sort of the national novel of the Philippines. I've just borrowed The Knight in the Panther's Skin
from the library, which is seen as "Georgia's national epic". What are some other national novels? (I've seen the Wikipedia national epics
list, but I'd prefer novels to epics, I think, unless they are really outstanding.) If you have particular translations/editions to recommend that'd be great as well.

How can I watch Filipino news (or any type of Filipino current events programming) in Tagalog with English subtitles? I only have a Roku - but if this can be accomplished with cable TV, Hulu Plus, etc., I'm all ears. I'm in Arlington, VA and have internet through Comcast. Thanks in advance.

My friend wants to buy a laptop computer for her 13 year-old daughter in Ozamiz City, Philippines, for about $500 Canadian/US.
Could you recommend a reliable brand and model for that price, and possibly a retailer in or near that location? Thanks.

Where can I find a list of all countries I can visit which don't require a visa (I'll be staying less than seven days at most)? I just want a list; when I resort to Google, I always end up typing in a random country's visa requirements just so I can find out. Thanks. (PS I'm from the Philippines)

I have a coworker I work very closely with who is actually in Manila. I'm in the US. I'd like to get her a little something for the holidays, is there a popular online shopping site for The Philippines (like Amazon?) that I could get her a gift card for?

I am looking for a specific Christmas album on Capitol Records, called "Christmas in the Phillipines" or "Pasko Sa Pilipinas", which is understandably a very generic title. The record I'm thinking of has the song "Pasko Sa Manila" by the Roque Sisters. [more inside]
