I want to start a local pets blog and want to do it well! (All I've done so far is buy a great domain name.) What would you like to see on a local blog about pets? Does your city have one that is a good example?

What dog appears in the recent Pedigree Dentastix commercials? I saw this commercial last week, so the memory is a little hazy. I think it was "for big dogs" or "puppies". The dog is tan in color with a black face. Thanks!

The Vet says my dogs need a teeth cleaning. What are my options? The Vet wants to put both dogs (beagles, 9ish years old) under for a teeth cleaning. The bill will be $500 plus. Does anybody have experience with the various products that are available for cleaning dog teeth? Do they work? I'm having a hard time accepting that cleaning a dog's teeth costs more than my dental cleanings, or more than the annual teeth float for my daughter's horse. Also, older dogs and anesthesia are not a good mix. It's relatively low risk, but still... If I can avoid anesthesia and save money that is a good thing.

I have been a great tenant for 2 years. I keep the place clean, I am quiet, I take out everyone's recycling, pay my rent on time (occasionally early), pay for my own carpet cleaning once a year to name a few of my glowing tenancy points. I have not physically renewed my lease in that time, but it states on the lease that I need to state my intention to stay and my lease is automatically renewed. Great! This year my landlord wants me to physically resign lease. No problem. He put a letter in my mail box with the new lease info. Same as always, so I said I would be over to sign. But two days ago he decided to change the terms...

How big and how small could a dog theoretically be? If people decided to breed the biggest dog possible, could they make one as big as a bear? If they tried to breed the smallest one possible, could they get it to the size of a shrew? If so, how many generations or how many years would it take to breed a bear-sized dog? I'm talking about standard breeding techniques, not genetic engineering.

We've got a new puppy and he's an adorable border-collie lab mix. He's about 8 weeks old.
He's going to be an indoor dog and we're anxious to get him trained and trained well for all of our happiness.
Still, we're like to keep it cheap. Can you recommend some good, free, video sites that teach puppy training in specific? Thanks!

I'm moving home to Toronto after 2 years in Egypt, and I need to take my cat. I know about the immunizations and paperwork, but I am not in control of booking my flight and need to know what to do if I end up with a long layover or a non-pet friendly airline. How does moving half-way around the world work with a cat, exactly?

We live in Vermont and have very long winters. I would like to start composting our pet waste (we have two smallish dogs) but all of the options I have found online are in-ground septic-type systems that do not function when soil temperatures drop. I am specifically looking for advice from someone who has discovered or built a system that operates reliably in colder temperatures.

Who has used a soft-sided dog crate for a large dog? Will it provide secure confinement for short periods?
We are moving from NJ to the west coast. Our elderly dog is too frail to travel by air, so we will drive a 6-day road trip.
For the road trip, I need a portable crate that will stow in our car trunk. We need the crate to set up in motel rooms. I want dog to have his "den". We do not plan to leave him alone, but there could be situations where he has to be kept confined for his safety.

Our six-year-old diabetic maltese is getting progressively more difficult to care for. He has frequent accidents on our and our two young daughters' beds; he needs regular insulin injections every 12 hours; and the cost between insulin, allergy shots, and a host of pills is challenging. How can we make things easier on ourselves without making him suffer? (As in, not crate him 24/7.)

I recently adopted a 2 yr. old Shih Tzu from the pound. He's been to the vet and has a clean bill of health. He's settled very well into things here and I'd like to start working on training him. After reading about several different methods I find clicker training the most interesting but I've never done it before. Anyone have any suggestions or tips?

I've read related posts on AskMeFi several times, as I've dealt with this before. I know there's something I'm missing. My dog pees in the house, albeit infrequently...except when she's peed in the house recently. I clean up the spots using Nature's Miracle (now Petastic). I do things to discourage her from peeing again near that area (blocking it off, putting her food nearby, etc.). She pees again in close proximity, but not at exactly the same spot. So, what do I do?
