Leaving a Dead Pet Behind

Pet Filter/Child Psychology Filter!: Close friend is considering moving after spending 20+ years in her home. Her children, when the moving topic was mentioned, immediately flipped out over the idea of leaving their home because of the handful of dead pets who are buried in the garden area. What can she tell them to help though the decision? Snowflake stuff inside! [more inside]

I may have killed my friend's pet.

Babysitting friend's budgie and let it out to have a fly. It hit a wall and fell to the ground beside my dog who promptly scooped him up but dropped him immediately when I yelled at him. I rushed him to an avian vet. The bird is in shock and in "critical" condition. Oh, please help. Vet expenses are going to be $400 and I don't even know if the bird will make it. But I don't care about the money. I care about my friend and my friendship with her. [more inside]

Is my cat in serious trouble or just normal hairball trouble?

Cat is weird. She's constantly sticking out her tongue, like there's something caught in her throat, but she's not choking and is relatively calm otherwise. I noticed it this morning as I was leaving for work and she's still doing it tonight. Is it normal hairballness that will soon work itself out, or should I be worried?

Your tips for feeding four cats while I'm out of town?

Overnight is one thing, but how can I make sure my four feline snowflakes get proper nutrition while their humans are off on a three-day cross-country jaunt? Given we've got one cat with food intolerances, one super-picky princess, one food-snatcher, and one with what the vet has described as a "highly efficient colon" (meaning she needs wet food every day), things are going to need a bit more consideration and prep-work than just leaving a big bowl of crunchies out. Inspection, possible eviction, related to pets and lease.

Former apartment manager advised us to cut corners with regard to pets (we have two dogs, two cats) in our original lease (which was written to say we have one dog, one cat that somehow allowed us to pay a single $200 pet fee). The new manager has made this an issue as we attempt to renew our lease and has scheduled an inspection for Tuesday, which may result in eviction or us being asked to "remove" two pets. [more inside]
