How can I find a good home for my cat in NYC?

My family and I were "displaced" by hurricane sandy. We were without a place to live for 10-11 weeks. We finally have a place to live and it's going ok, but we need to find a home for one of our cats because he can't stay with us. It's sad, but we need to find him a good home. How do you do that? He's the sweetest cutest thing. I can't have him be in one of those cages. However I really need to find him a home fast. I'm freaking out about this an don't know what to do. Please help. I'm Too Tiny For My Collar

We just adopted two kittens, YAY! They are from a shelter, so they just got neutered and spayed today, but they are actually too small for the smallest e-collars (which we have). Thus, problems. [more inside]

Cats 101

I am daydreaming about getting a cat. But I've never had a pet of any kind. What would I be getting myself into? Give me the skinny, in terms of cost, daily care, supplies needed, etc. (Point me to a good book on the subject if you know one!) If I were to do this, I want to be as well informed as possible. Should I be racist against the Siamese? (cats)

Dog person needs cat advice. If I adopt a kitten that has any of the physical attributes of a Siamese (blue eyes, lighter body with dark tails, etc.) or has litter mates with any of these attributes, am I condemning myself to live with a cat with a noisy needy Siamese personality? [more inside]

How to find a new situation for a cat

CatFilter. I have a friend in Berkeley, whose mom has been taking care of three family cats in Durham, NC. Her mom is starting a new job in New York and can only take two cats to her new apartment. My friend can take the third cat, but only after her lease expires in May. In the meantime, she needs the cat to be taken care of. Her family has asked everyone they know but no one can take this cat. What can she do? She is attached to this cat and wants to make sure it is well taken care of and loved.

Peeing Dog

My roommate and I adopted a dog about two weeks ago. He's a submissive/excited urinator. When I get home from school, if I so much as look at him, there's pee everywhere. Same thing with scolding--he does something bad, I'm all "no, that was bad," and he's all "okay, have some of my urine!"

I've been told that the best way to deal with this is just to wait, but if there's something to expedite the process, I'm all ears. (More about our training methods inside.) [more inside]
