Help me legally and ethically adopt my dog from a crazy LA rescue org.

When we brought home a new pup from a local rescue organization three months ago, we had no idea we were getting involved with a Crazy Lady. The adoption STILL isn't finalized and we really want to make it official and never deal with them again. Help me understand if their requests are reasonable and officially adopt my dog! Garlic & Dogs.

My roommate's 25 lb. mutt ate little tuna with a sprinkling of garlic powder (about 1/10th(?) teaspoon worth). Since garlic is extremely toxic to dogs, should I be worried?

Seeking to re-squeak dog's favorite toys

My small dog loves squeaky tennis balls and will chase them incessantly, morning and night. However, he is also quite adept at de-squeaking these toys, sometimes within minutes. While he does continue to play with the balls after they have lost their sound, these are far less alluring. As neither my budget nor my house has room for the infinite supply of fresh squeaky balls he desires, I seek to re-squeak these balls with fresh squeakers and some super glue. [more inside]

Dog + Delivery Driver + Paws through window pane ≠ good times

Eleven hours ago our 80 pound dog, Oscar, put both his front paws through a small pane of glass in a set of french doors which resulted in lacerations to the "back" of both front legs. Thankfully we were home and reacted quickly by summoning our neighbor who is an exotic pet veterinarian. She was able to wrap up both legs and call ahead to the ER vet. Even with this quick reaction Oscar still lost a lot of blood and did pretty serious damage to one of his legs. The ER vet was able to repair the severed (partially or completely, they did not provide specifics) muscle, tendon and artery and we were able to bring him home about six hours ago. Now what? How do I get our cat to bury her poop?

I am not a cat person, but my wife likes cats, so we have one. Our cat consistently uses the litter box (which is much more than I can say for the last cat we had). However, she almost never buries it, and the odor is, of course, offensive. [more inside]

Should I give up my cat to a roommate?

When my partner and I wound up living apart for grad school, our girl cat went with him to his new shared house. In the past 2 years, his roommate has become very attached to the cat. However, my partner is moving to my place to share an apartment with me and our male cat - these cats have managed together in the past, but some specific challenges (within)... What would be best for everyone, but mostly the girl cat, in this situation? Warning - long! [more inside]

Cat sitter in Boston

I moved back to Boston a bit over a year ago. previously I was living in the suburbs in a southeastern city and had a really great pet sitter: she would come to the house to care for my pets daily when I travelled. I have had trouble finding a similar person here. I have had a few short work-related trips, for which my building doorman sufficed. When I took a longer personal vacation, I used yelp to find a pet sitter. The person I chose was recommended but REALLY did not measure up. (ie did not show up at all:please memail me if you want who never to use). I am looking for someone who will come to my home daily to feed/water my 2 cats. I live in Fort Point (so parking can be a challenge). Anyone have suggestions? (note; I prefer to leave my cats in situ as vs boarding them)

Pet Microchip choices

My veterinarian offers HomeAgain pet microchips. The company wants a $17.99 per year fee. I find that there is also a site: RFID-USA that offers registration at a one-time expense and no yearly maintenance fee. Is this a good option in lieu of the HomeAgain continuing yearly fee. [more inside]

Dog is upset at new item in yard

We just had a large tree cut down in our yard. We decided to leave a large portion of the trunk lying horizontally on the ground in an area where we generally throw leaves and prunings. One of our dogs is now barking nonstop at this large trunk. He's obviously scared and upset. Any suggestions on how to calm him down?

My cat was drinking mosquitos?

I just found what looks like mosquito larvae in my cat's water bowl. I use one of those automatic waterers where there is a gallon or so of water in a upside down container, feeding a small bowl of perhaps 2 cup capacity. In the large upside down container, there was actually one live, flying mosquito. In the small bowl that my cat actually drinks from, there were approximately a dozen apparent larvae, about 1/4" to 1/3" in length. Should I be concerned for my pet's health at all? I am not sure how long they were in there, but I changed the water for fresh immediately.
