Must-see in NYC?

What are the absolute must-see plays or performances happening this month in New York City? I'm going to be in NYC the last week of October. I go about twice a year and every time I'm there I try to see as much amazing theater as I can. However I'm out of the loop this season and don't know what's really great. (Last year I saw "Equus" "Fuerza Bruta" and "Black Watch." I enjoyed all of them.)

I shouldn't have any trouble getting tickets to even sold-out performances due to my business connections, but I don't know what is worth seeing, and I don't want to waste my few city evenings on anything mediocre. It doesn't have to be Broadway or even off-Broadway-- just truly memorable.

I heard "At Steady Rain" was 'meh,' but heard good things about "Our Town." What do you recommend? Thanks!

What was this website?

Long shot: Anyone know what site this was? It's an old musician, kinda kenny rogers looking, who used to be moderately big I think, but now has people play at his house and films it. It's kind of like La Blogotheque, but american. It's a pretty professional looking site with quite a bit of content. I remember stumbling on an episode on it where they're cooking ribs in a Big Green Egg grill and this young band maybe in their late 20's with a female singer plays in a barn-looking area. I think the background of the site was black.

I'm really hazy on the details, but I figure I'd give the hive mind a try!

Where can I see "lyrical" dance being performed?

Where can I see "lyrical" dance being performed? I tend to shun any and all reality TV shows, but for some reason (boring summer filled with reruns) I watched every episode of So You Think You Can Dance. Hip-hop and ballroom are nice and all, but I can't get enough of what they call "lyrical" dance. I've never heard the term before so I'm guessing it's what used to be called modern ballet? Is that correct?

Anyway, it's incredibly engaging stuff and I'd love to go see more of it in Portland, Seattle, or San Francisco, but I have no idea where to start. Do certain dance companies specialize in it? Is there a more popular name for it I should look for? Do college dance programs perform it?

What apps does the IDM group use in concerts?

[IDM music filter] If you've ever watched an IDM group perform live, usually all they have is a laptop. What programs do they likely have running live performances? [MI] what VST effects/instruments are they likely to use (what vst effects/instruments are good for live performances). How much is actually sequenced? What exactly does an IDM artist do during a live performance? Most of the time they just seem to be letting the sequencer play back everything and they dont look like they're doing anything (obviously i am wrong, but thats what it looks like).
