I'm an amateur classical pianist. I used to give solo recitals at college, and I would like to start performing again out here in the real world. But what sort of group/organisation/event do I need to get involved with to have this kind of opportunity? Could I organise a little independent recital for myself, or is that weird and too egotistical?

I'm writing a program that uses lots of memory. I'd like a utility that can show me what it's using the memory for.
For example, one part of the program processes an XML file, creates an object and loads a WebBrowser .NET control. I'd like to see how much memory was required to parse the XML file, how much memory my object is using, and how much memory the WebBrowser control uses.

So, I got a new 320GB internal ATA hard drive, hooked it up as a slave to my 80GB hard drive, and put all my video, music, and photos on the new 320GB drive. Then, problems arise: when I'm downloading things onto the new drive (via BitTorrent), the computer stutters and is generally slow. Also, when opening and saving photos (~300MB TIFFs) in Photoshop, it takes an eternity. Is there a better way to configure my system on the hard drives?

Having just been to a concert last night, I thought the whole tradition of the 'encore' was a little silly. I can't recall a performer ever not coming back to stage and belting out another few songs. Where did the encore come from? What are perfomers doing during their short "break?" Has anyone ever been to a concert performance where there wasn't an encore? Did rioting ensue?

I remember back in the 70s seeing a story on TV about an artist who filmed himself punching a timeclock every hour 24/7 for a whole year. At the end of the year he had a short time-lapse film of himself punching a clock 365 times. He had shaved his head at the beginning of the year, so you could see his hair growing over the duration of the film. He described how he had to structure his life in order to be able to do the filming every hour and how his mind began to short circuit from not getting enough REM sleep from sleeping in only hour-long stretches at a time. I'd like to see that film again. Does anybody else remember this story and/or who this guy is?
