I have my first show coming up. My first show will be an admittedly lame DJ set where I pretty much just play one song after the other...if I had more time I would try to come up with something more interesting, but any suggestions for making this performance not so boring?

I'm running a series of load-tests against my wordpress (WAMP) blog with the apache-benchmark tool. The server is a dedicated server with 2 dual-core xeon procs. and 2gb RAM running the blog only and nothing else. I'm getting 4-5 requests/sec on average. Is this normal?
What would be a reasonable performance in requests/sec? Thanks!

I'm planning to add a feature to my website that will allow users to request periodic updates by email. I've cobbled together a little PHP script that uses the mail() function. It works perfectly when I test it myself, but I have no idea how this will work when released to a signficant number of users.

Dogs seem to be easy to train to do tricks, cats, not so.
I have taught her to eat treats off the furniture (and she often fluffs that) but not much else. She doesn't respond to commands or perform any tricks on demand. Can you give me hints or tips I might employ to make my cat become a star?

Is Firefox churning my Powerbook? When I have more than a few tabs open, I hear (and see- on my little menubar app) heavy hard drive activity. It feels like it gets stuck in some kind of endless swap and the performance of the machine seems to suffer. More importantly, the noise drives me nuts. I suspect Firefox memory management issues. I know Firefox has a bad rep in this dept. Suggestions? Tweeks? Opera?

I just bought a pretty high-end Dell PC with a large LCD monitor.
It's got dual Core2 CPUs @ 2.66GHz, 4 GB of RAM, and a decent graphics card. The monitor is a widescreen 27" Dell Ultrasharp.
So far, I like the PC. But I was disappointed to find that the first PC game I tried (BioShock) runs TERRIBLY. The game does run pretty well on my slightly older PC, which only has a 19" monitor.
So, I think the large, widescreen monitor is the problem. Is that correct? Are there tricks to running the latest games on a large LCD monitor?
Many thanks in advance for any advice and insight.

When did directors of plays and operas start the practice of overtly imposing their own visual interpretation of the play at the expense of the stage direction of the author? These days if you go to see a Shakespeare play, it's even odds that it's set in modern times, or the early 20th century, or what have you. Were there 19th century (or earlier!) productions of Shakespeare that set his plays in what were then "modern times"? At what point did staging old plays become just as much about the director's vision as the playwright's?
