Where on earth do you get pregnant human pee?

I was looking for a good place to buy equine chorionic gonadotropic (eCG) hormone for science reasons today and stumbled across this listing for the more commonly used hCG. It's listed as being sourced from "Human Pregnancy Urine." Where on earth do biomedical companies get enough human pregnancy urine to distill a compound like this? Is there some sort of secret cottage industry of pregnant ladies selling their pee to biotech companies? Where does the pee come from?

How to stop a puppy peeing indoors?

We've had our eight-week-old Labrador for a few days and he's developed a bad habit: he won't pee while we're outside in the garden (sometimes for over an hour) but the moment he comes in he goes to one part of the kitchen and pees there. How can we make him realise that he's got it the wrong way around? [more inside]

How should I clean these sandals a dog peed on?

On Tuesday, my cousin's dog let forth a deluge of pee on my feet. It was LOTS of pee. I was wearing my favorite leather sandals (very similar to these). While I cleaned off my feet, my cousin cleaned my sandals with a wet towel (no soap). I had to wear them the rest of the day, before I traveled home on Wednesday. I feel kind of icky at the prospect of wearing them again. How should I clean them?

why do men spit in urinals and keep flushing while pissing?

OK, weird question this week, but I have wondered about this for a while. I've noticed in public bathrooms there are a lot of men who either 1) spit in the urinal continuously while peeing or 2) keep pulling the flush handle while standing there pissing or 3) do both of these at the same time. I'm sure there are multiple reasons for why to do this, but I am curious as to your speculations about why they are doing it. Is the spitting some way of being macho? Is the constant flushing some way of disposing that which is "dirty"? the "normative" behavior is to piss and then flush, so why this variant (which also wastes a lot of water BTW)? Why the combination of both spitting and flushing? I think we may reveal something about male psychology or social ideology here.

He peed on my wife's leg

We have a neutered 15 month Irish Terrier. Very well trained and walked etc, a very content little fellow. I (the Dad in the family) take him on most walks and fun/training stuff. Today as my wife walked him, while stopped at a street corner waiting to cross, he quietly cocked a leg and peed on her leg! I've seen non-neutered dogs at the park do this but never our dog. He listens to both of us but I have most interaction with him. What does this behavior mean? What do you think is going on his head?

What is this strange phenomenon happening with ostensibly house trained dogs soiling the house? If it's yellow, let it mellow into a hard sandy crust at the bottom of the toilet.

My roommate and I long ago decided that we would not flush pee. Save water and all. The only problem is this: apparently if you let urine sit in the toilet, it turns into a really attractive layer of brown sediment, in a spot that is very difficult to clean with a toilet brush . . . right up to the front of the little recess on the bottom, and right in the back of it as well. Is there anything we can add to the reservoir to keep this from happening? [more inside]

Grass, the natural prey of the miniature poodle.

We had a new grass lawn put in at the start of the year. Before long, it had developed yellow spots: pic 1, pic 2. A suspect has been brought in for questioning. She did not confess, only licking the detective on advise of counsel. Two questions: 1) Is she likely the real culprit? 2) What remedies are available? If it is her, I'd like to note that the whole point of the lawn was so that she could do her business out there. We'll get her a potty pad and encourage her not to go on the grass, but I'm doubtful that she'll always go where we want. [more inside]
