How to use up peanut butter?

I have a bunch of peanut butter that I need to use up, but I'm running out of ideas. I would particularly appreciate recipe ideas that I can use in meals, though all I can ever really think of is perhaps Thai-style chicken/noodles, or PB&J sandwiches, or fruit with peanut butter dip. I know there's also stuff like peanut butter cookies and other baking goodies, but I'm trying to avoid sugar-bombing my diet too badly. Please help me with ideas!

Best peanut butter cookie recipe

I love peanut butter cookies. I love them when they are very peanutty, and slightly moist. I love them when they don't have peanut bits in them, or chocolate chips in them. (I love them when they do have peanut butter chips in them, but I have trouble finding peanut butter chips.) I have a pile of peanut butter cookie recipes, all of which are perfectly fine but none of which are the ultimate cookie. I am not worried about the cookies being good for me, just very peanutty and not dry moist and chewy. Sort of like an awesome oatmeal cookie, except with peanut butter.

Can you get an allergy from peanuts? My diet has changed recently and sometimes I will end up eating 1/3 of jar in a day. I'm eating the all natural kind that doesn't contain trans fats.

Is the saturated fat any better for you because it comes from peanuts?

I'm also eating more almonds lately and I've noticed that they often have almost no taste to me in the middle of the day, but at night (especially an hour or two before bed) they have this very sweet, full taste. Do your tastebuds change through out the day?

The Mystery of the vanished Costco organic peanut butter

Costco's Kirkland Brand organic peanut butter. It has disappeared from Costco and is apparently discontinued. Why oh why has this occurred? What occurred to make Costco discontinue their house brand of organic peanut butter? Any ideas? Anybody familiar enough with Costco policies to comment?

Follow up question: Can anyone recommend a peanut butter which, like the late lamented Kirkland brand, is made of nothing but peanuts and salt? No palm oil or other added fat, nothing. Doesn't have to be organic.

Peanut butter problem?

My kid is having a reaction to peanut butter. As in, a rash around his mouth after he ate a bite of my PBJ toast. I'm trying to figure out how much I need to worry, and the Internets aren't helping. He's one year old (13 months if you want to be specific). He's had peanut butter before, but no reaction at the time, so I hadn't worried about it. The last two times he had peanut butter he ended up with a rash, so now we're concerned and are making sure he doesn't come in contact with it again. He has no sign or history of any other allergies, and no one in either my family or my wife's have a history of food allergies either. I'm trying to look up info on this topic, but am running into a wall of fear from the anti-peanut butter crusaders: almost every single site I find lays it on thick, "no peanut butter for LIFE or it's CERTAIN DOOM for your BABY!" kind of stuff. I don't want to know how bad peanut allergies can be for some people. I want to know how often an early reaction can turn into a serious allergy, or if early reactions can simply end up going away on their own. Basically, I'm looking for rational info from people who have dealt with it themselves.

My main questions: Will he grow out of this? Will it get worse? And does this really mean my little guy has to grow up never having had the simple joy that is a PBJ? It seems unfair.

(And yes, we are planning on discussing this with his doctor at the next well-baby checkup.)

Our mouse is a very very very stubborn mouse

Ways to make death more appealing to a stubborn house mouse? We caught one mouse in a snap trap a few weeks ago using the peanut butter "appetizer" method mentioned in an earlier post. The friend (or friends) it left behind, however, is proving a bit more clever. It is totally uninterested in our other peanut butter-baited snap traps and apparently has not yet succumbed to the poison we put out a week ago (which promised to kill them in five days).

I don't think we have that many mice, and I kind of think there's just the one left. I've only ever seen one at a time, usually every other day or so. I don't find more than a few poops at a time. It somehow hasn't gotten into our food (we check regularly). While we've plugged up as many holes in the walls as we can, it's a really old house that had kind of a half-assed renovation job. There are holes around the heaters, and probably holes behind the fridge and oven that we can't even get to.

So: Is there a way to make our mouse control efforts more effective? I feel like the little bastard's just mocking us at this point. Will putting peanut butter on the poison pellets work? Is there some other food that a picky mouse will love? I'd like to avoid shelling out the cash for something like the rat zapper, especially if our little buddy will ignore it like he's ignoring the snap trap.

How do I mix organic peanut butter?

How do I mix organic peanut butter without making a godawful mess? I googled and found this Slashfood piece that honestly doesn't offer much by way creative alternatives. I just stick a knife in there and mash it around real good but it winds up all over my hands and oil runs all down the side and gets on the counter top. Should I dump the whole jar into a bowl and mix it and put it back? Best practices, please.

Who has the best CHEWY peanut butter cookies?

Please help me find the perfect, CHEWY, peanut butter cookie. Requirements inside. Health Valley has discontinued my favorite Wheat and Dairy-Free Peanut Crunch Oatmeal Cookies, so I'm on the prowl for a new brand. Here are my requirements:

The consistency should be more chewy than crunchy.

Main ingredients must be <purely> peanuts and/or peanut butter. No chocolate chips, chunks, etc.

No high-fructose corn syrup

All natural ingredients

Preferably organic

Available in southern California. I have access to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. Online delivery is also a plus!

Thanks in advance:-)

</purely>

</purely>

Peanut butter flavored bagel

Are there any (specialty) bagel shops in NYC or NJ that make peanut butter flavored bagels? I managed to find a bagel shop in California called Garden State Bagels that makes them (ironic, right?), but they don't deliver out of state. Peanut butter bagels don't seem to be popular, but I'd like to find one!

What else can I keep at my desk for making sandwiches? I'm bored of peanut butter and jam. I keep PB and jam at my desk in the office. That way, I can just grab some bread on leaving the house in the morning, and make a sandwich at my desk when I get hungry at lunchtime.

PB and jam are nice, but I tire of them. What other sandwich fillings can I keep *at my desk* without refrigeration. Sweet and savoury both good. I'm vegetarian, but I doubt that's relevant here (meat not being shelf stable, and all that).

My parents live in Central Pennsylvania (Mechanicsburg/17055), and the local groceries all carry at least three different brands of Peanut Butter Ripple. But when I get back home to the Bay Area, no luck. Nobody appears to have even heard of it. So, uh, why is this? Is there a reason? Or is this, like scrapple, just one of those things that defy explanation?

Crispy Crunchity Peanut Buttery

Is it dangerous to eat a jar of peanut butter? A friend has decided to eat an entire 40oz jar of skippy brand peanut butter in one sitting, on a $20 bet. Should I try to put a stop to this, or full steam ahead?
Obscure children's fiction filter: What's this DC superhero book I read in the 1980s? I read this book in the 80s about either Batman or The Flash--I can't remember which--which had the superhero trying to figure out how things were being stolen from somewhere (a museum? I don't remember). If I'm remembering right, part of it involved the villain sneaking through the city by way of manholes, and either the villain or the superhero could run exceptionally fast and had to eat a lot of peanut butter as a result. (I think it was probably the villain; I seem to remember the superhero finding empty peanut butter jars for awhile and wondering what was going on.) Sure, it sounds perfectly ridiculous, but it is superhero fiction.

The book, if I'm remembering right, was small: maybe 4" x 5"; as a kid I remember thinking it was sized right (?). (And yes, I know it's odd that I can remember the small size but not even who the book was about ... I'm willing to accept that I can't find the book again because I'm conflating several storylines into one.)

The book struck me as somewhat dark at the time but I'd like to track it down and read it again just for kicks.

... Also/alternatively, is there some authoritative source about children's books DC has published? I'm at a loss on how to even begin searching this one; freeweb search engines are being no help whatsoever.

Stirring peanut butter

Is there a neat trick for stirring up natural/old-fashioned peanut butter? I prefer the pure nuts-and-salt taste and gritty texture of stir-it-yourself peanut butter. But I get oil everywhere trying to work it through a full jar, and I never seem to do a thorough job, because the bottom of the jar is usually a little chalky. It's even harder once the jar's been refrigerated. Has anyone discovered any techniques for stirring up oil-on-top peanut butter? Or am I the only one inept enough to have this problem?

When did Peanut Butter and Tuna become one?

"You got peanut butter in my tuna!" Or maybe "You got tuna in my peanut butter!" Where does this phrase come from? I know it's a take of the old Reeses Peanut Butter cup commerical, but it has been used with peanut butter and tuna with strange frequency this past 2 weeks or so. Where is it from? I know I just saw it on a childrens' show where their picnic was ruined. I think it might have been Rugrat-like characters, though doubt it was Rugrats since my son doesn't care for them.

I thankfully have not seen the variation "I've got your peanut butter in my tuna."
Peanut Butter on Head

Any idea on the title/details of a movie released in the early '90's about a kid who puts peanut butter on his head and his hair won't stop growing? I remember my mother renting this movie that was extremely frightening at the time - apparently so scary that I forgot most of the details about it. God, I think it involved this boy going to a house and putting peanut butter on his bald head since an older guy told him it would grow his hair out. He did, and the hair wouldn't stop growing.

Perhaps I'm completely wrong on the details, but part of me would like to watch it again to see if it is, in fact, as terrifying as I remember.

Peanut buttery Raisin goodness?

I am looking to identify a recipe from my younger days. I vaguely remember some kind of snacky treat being served that had peanut butter and raisins. The peanut butter was raw and the entire thing was uncooked, Definatly not a cookie or a bar. I remember the texture being slightly gritty like it had raw brown sugar in it or was maybe rolled in it. Possibly in a ball shape. I've been searching google like crazy and I cannot find anything that sounds like what I remember.

Give me your peanut butter recipes.

I love peanut butter, preferring creamy over chunky... but it doesn't really matter. I'm pretty sure I love peanut butter now as much as I ever did when I was a kid. What are some of your favorite ways to eat peanut butter and/or use it in other recipes? I've eaten peanut butter in just about every sandwich concoction I can think of... including PB&J of course, PB and mayo, PB and bologne (another kid thing), the Elvis, PB and applesauce. A friend puts it on a hamburger, although I've never tried it. I love creamy PB with a cored and quartered Gala apple. If something comes with a "peanut dipping sauce", then I want it.

Just after college, a friend of mine moved to Estonia for a year or so, to live with "distant" relatives. After a while he began to crave some food favorites from back in the states and had his mother mail him a small jar of peanut butter. The kids (younger cousins perhaps) that were living with him were curious, having never tasted peanut butter. They tried it and were completely repulsed... hated it. I just can't understand that.
