Roughly five years ago, a friend and I were browsing second-hand stores on the East side of Portland, and stumbled upon one that was weirdly memorable, mostly because we now have absolutely no idea where it was located, but have the lingering feeling that it's something that we pass by all the time and somehow aren't noticing. All available clues below the fold...

New Neighborhood in Portland OR! New to me, anyway. I could use some help! I now live downtown. What bars, pubs, etc, are great for a casual first date? I'm in my late 30s if that helps.

Me and the wife will be flying out to Portland, Oregon roughly six months from now to check out the city to see if we want to relocate. We were thinking of not renting a car and just using light rail to get around, since good public transportation is a major factor of why we want to relocate. How good or bad of an idea is this?

In the late 90s in Portland, Oregon, there was an AM radio program called the Saturday Morning Rock Show (if I'm remembering right) on (maybe) 1010 AM. Ran for 3-4 hours or so. Switched to Sundays at one point, then back to Saturdays I think, and then was gone. For most of their time they only played local Portland bands.

I often find myself in places where I don't know players in the local pro scene (assuming there is one). For example I have had limited success with sites such as LinkedIn and facebook in trying to find potential chamber music partners in Portland for a sightreading session at short notice. Is there a good website for making connections between like-minded people who enjoy making music for fun at the highest level? If not, is this something that would attract any interest from others, not that many classically-trained musicians necessarily read mefi?

So I'm visiting my wife's family in Portland and just discovered that the electronics surplus wonderland known as "Wacky Willy's" went out of business several years ago. It was sort of like Archie McPhee's for Maker types. Are there other similar places that I can take my budding geek 12-year-old that are similar to Wacky Willy's?

I have a wedding to go to in Eugene. I am flying in and out of PDX. I know that it's a 2 hour drive between the two. My flight was at 5pm on Monday, but now (thanks!) it's been moved up to 1pm. I need a plan for coming back to Portland on Sunday, staying the night, and then getting to the airport at a reasonable time.

We're living in Portland, Oregon and I'm looking to buy a bike I can use to cycle a few miles to work downtown and get around our neighbourhood. There's so many bike shops here we don't know where to start looking. I'd prefer a good-quality secondhand bike, but could probably stretch to a new one if I had to. Neither of us are bike nerds so are wary of being sold the wrong thing, so we're after a place that will give us good, honest, advice and have a good range of bikes. Thanks.

I joined an improv group through meet-up.com. Our current practice space is part of a set of mall storefronts that have been converted into a haunted house. At the end of summer they are going to resume haunting folks and we will no longer have practice space. Any thoughts on where in Portland OR. we might be able to find relatively private rooms that have seating and an open area that are either free or extremely cheap?

I'm helping to plan a weekend conference in Portland, OR next June. We hope to have 300-500 people attend. We'd like to have some sessions in which everyone gathers to hear featured speakers, and we'd like to have breakout workshops featuring smaller groups. Plus it would be great if we were near food and lodging. My question:
Where are good locations in Portland to hold a conference? We're not keen on cold, soulless places like the convention center. What about the art museum? The Baghdad theater? The Aladdin? The Kennedy School? What venues can you recommend?
