Is there a way to send a message through Adobe Acrobat? [more inside]
I have to read a lot of academic papers. They are usually formatted into 2 columns per page. This is fine if I print them out, but when I read them on a computer screen, it is difficult/annoying for me to scroll up and down - I lose my place easily (I recognize this may be unusual). Is there software out there that will strip the text from a pdf into one column (and maybe put all the figures at the end or somewhere)? Like the Readability extension for text on the web, but for pdfs. Maybe a plugin for Adobe Acrobat? Linux or Windows, please. Thanks.
My (very) small office just got a new whiz-bang scanner that can scan stacks of paper to image-only PDFs. Ideally, I'd like to use this to do away with paper filing, but this is harder (for me) than it sounds. [more inside]

I have been trying to convert PDFs downloaded from Google Books with GooReader3 to DOC files. The conversion programs tried gave files that are readable, but not editable, in Word. I can grab the text and move it around the page as a block. The PDFs seem to have been converted into some Word readable graphic. I have other PDF files that I use as controls. These control files can be edited in Word after conversion. I am trying to convert PDF files of public domain books from Google Books downloaded with GooReader3. I need to change the font size so they are readable on my Kindle. GooReader downloads are to only PDF files that behave as a Word readable graphic after conversion. What am I looking at here?
Can anyone recommend a plug-in that allows adobe acrobat to sort pages by page number? I inserted page numbers into a document; extracted certain pages into separate files, and then combined them again; the page numbers were off as a result (and there are some dupes). I'd like to make them resort by page number. Any ideas?

I'm trying to turn PDFs made from presentations on the Prezi website (prezi.com) into text documents and am looking for a program to OCR them with. Since Prezi's PDFs come out rather odd with some text trailing off the edge that isn't pertinent to the current slide I need something that will allow me to make a selection box around the text I wish to OCR as opposed to auto OCR'ing the entire page. What Windows program should I be looking at?
I want to save documents as pdf files instead of xps files in using Windows 7 print utility. There's a plug in from Microsoft to do it in Office 2007 programs, but I want to do it with other programs, specifically accounting software. Anyone know a plug in to do this?

PDF-filter: I'm running a website that allows users to upload files. I'm looking for a converter that would allow User B to view a files uploaded by User A, even if User B doesn't have the same software used to develop the file. My guess is converting everything (that's not a simple image) to PDF would work, but my Google-fu is failing me and I can't find a PHP script or Apache module that will do this. [more inside]

I'm looking for a "flipping page" online catalog viewer for print catalogs. Hoping to find something that will work for iPad, iPhone and Android. Ideally I'd like something self-hosted, but that is not a deal breaker. The ability to add image map-like links to URLs is needed. The source file is a PDF built in InDesign.

I've got a PDF (a magazine). I'm trying export some pages from this PDF (my article), as a separate PDF. I'm on a Mac (10.6.7). This seems like it should be easy, but I can't print my selected pages to PDF (it's grayed out in the "Save to PDF" drop-down), nor can I find any options to save-selected-pages-as or export-to. My searches have only turned up now-obsolete, non-functioning programs like PDFlab and PDFsam. What am I missing? Should I just print out the pages and scan them back in?

I work in a school and have made a number of resources of my own for my classes and my department. I would like to upload these to the school's website but I wanted to have them as PDF files where the content was not copyable. I am currently running Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2010, and Adobe Reader X. I also have the Serif X3 Applications package installed on my machine. Is what I want achievable with the software I currently have or should I forget the idea?

iWork question: When exporting my document to PDF in Pages '09, the resulting text quality is really poor for the regions that are set in 8pt Helvetica Neue.
