Is it possible to create a fillable PDF form that includes logic?
Assume there is a sum calculation with total of $1000.00
If check box = selected, tax=12%,
else if check box off, tax =0.
If check box is selected, the tax field will show $120.00 and the grand total below it (sum of total + tax) will be $1120.00
If check box is not selected, grand total will be $1000.00
What is needed to do the above? Javascript? Any example will be welcome!

I have a multi-thousand PDF library of books. They are organized by directory (C:\Lib\Science, C:\Lib\History, etc..) I would like to be able to search across part or all of the library. For example, find all occurrences of "Charles Dickens" in PDF's in the C:\Lib\Literature directory. What (freeware) Windows software can do this and other features?

Perhaps this is just a fantasy, but is there any application or online tool that could search through the references of an article I have saved as a PDF, in order to check whether I have those cited articles in my larger PDF library? It would be perfect if it would highlight, link, or somehow display cross-referenced relationships between all my articles. I am already familiar with many referencing/PDF organization software such as
Papers (Mekentosj),
Sente, and
Devonthink. I suppose what I have in mind is a similar tool, but with the additional power of something like ISI Indexes. I have a fairly large library (about 300 references that I'm actively using, and more than 2000 total) and I'm just trying to get some "big-picture" grasp of how all these sources relate to one another.

Can you help me with this HTML print-sizing problem? I have a 3x5 index card created in Word. When I convert it to PDF, it prints out full size, as in Word. But when I convert to HTML, either from Word or from the PDF, and then print the HTML page, it scales down. Is there a way to make it print full-size in HTML?

Adobe Acrobat/Distiller query: I choose Adobe PDF 9.0 from the print dialog of Word 2008 on my Mac, and choose PDF/X-1a:2001 from the PDF Options. I click Print, am asked for a filename/location, the printing queue window opens, but NO FILE IS SAVED! What am I doing wrong? If I try and open the Word doc from within Acrobat, to output it there, it tells me it can't be outputted as a PDF/X-1a file.

I have many scans of books in PDF format. The problem is that each PDF page has two side-by-side book pages and I want to optimize them for reading on a kindle. Because the scans are pretty regular, I am hoping it would be easy to automate the slicing of one page into two and then recompiling the halfpages into a single document. Does anyone know of any open source programs to do this? Perhaps a python library? A feature of Adobe Acrobat?

I need to read a series of pdfs tonight - the trouble is, the resolution on them is messed up so as to be nearly illegible. Reading all of these will surely make my eyeballs shrivel up & fall out. With only access to Acrobat Reader, is there anything I can do to increase the readability of these pdfs - a way to change from color to b&w, increase the sharpness - anything?
