I'm comfortable with computers, but far from an expert. But other people see my comfort and presume that I'm a total pro and ask that I take a look at their PC, because "its running too slow". What FREE bit of software would you recommend to optimize a person's Windows 7 PC so runs a bit faster or smoother? These users all use the Microsoft Suite and Firefox. Is there FREE software on the PC that deletes old caches or files or something similar?

So, I am finally giving up my last personal connection to Microsoft, my home PC running Windows 7 Home Premium, and switching to a really gorgeous iMac. Everything else in my life -- phone, tablet, watch, and laptop -- are already Apple. What preparations should I engage in while waiting for the new iMac to be delivered? And what do you recommend for smoothly getting my data (photos, documents, Quicken file, etc.) from my PC to my new Mac? And is there anything else you would advise I do as I make the transition? Many thanks.

Hi, I want to get a refurb PC running Windows 7 (for occasional use), get one of the beefy, business-use laptops that cost crazy money about 3-4 years ago. Now I see these machines for $200-$300. I near good things about the Lenovo t400 & t61, but I'm open, also wonder if people can suggest places like Newegg, etc., that are good or to be avoided. Thanks!
I'm reformatting the hard drive of my parent's Windows 7 PC to give to somebody. That's all well and good--software is reinstalled, drivers are updated, Windows Update looks happy. When I started the machine for the first time after Windows 7 installation was complete, it did it's standard thing where it asked what the user name was, what the PC name was, basic settings, etc. Is there any way to redo that setup for the new owner when they turn it on for the first time? I have an external usb drive running off my Windows 7 computer. It keeps switching back to Read-Only, so when I try to send files to it, it merely appends a file and adds a number to its name, instead of re-writing the entire file. I've tried to change it back, but it does not stay changed. The minute I refresh the page, the read-only status comes back! Is there some setting I'm missing? Is there something in Windows 7 that's causing this to happen?
