I'm having a wireless connectivity issue that is proving troublesome. My Windows XP-equipped desktop won't connect wirelessly to the internet about 90% of the time. Intermittently, it will connect and browsing proceeds normally. If I connect via LAN Ethernet, all is well.

My girlfriend is looking for a laptop. She's used to a Mac (desktop) and we've determined that the
MacBook Pro 15-inch with 2.4 ghz Intel Core i5 processor (she's a photographer, so needs a decent amount of power).
We're pretty sure she'd be happy with that, but we're trying to figure out how much we'd save by going Windows. Of course, trying to figure out an equivalent Windows to a Mac is a bit baffling (to me, anyway), so...I turn to the fine people of Askmetistan. What's a good comparable?

I'm trying to get my old files off of an old Hard-disk. Old PC is XP newer PC is Vista. I removed the Hardisk from the OLD computer. I bought a USB to SATA/IDE cable. When I plug in the Hard-disk via USB, I hear the confirmation tone that you hear everytime you plug in a USB. I see a "ST340082 0AS SCSI Disk Device" in the "Safely remove hardware" icon in the tray. but I do not see the Drive. I can't really afford an External Hard drive. But I will eventually if I have to. Cna anyone help me please.

My co-worker asked me to help her secure her home Windows Laptop. She recently had a virus that made the computer unusable. As someone who has been using primarily OSX at home for the past year I'm behind the times in terms of Windows security. I formatted the drive and re-installed windows XP for her. I've recommended getting Firefox and AVG, but aside from that: what should she do to make her computer more resistant to viruses and spyware?

PC/installing OS/Disk drive question:
Here's what I have:
XP sp2 & my software on a 20Gb HDD. All my documents etc are on a separate drive. I want to move my OS and Program Files to a new 120Gb HDD. If I just copy the lot over and change the boot dir as it boots, will all my programs still be installed? Could I change the 120Gb HDD's name to C: while I'm partitioning it prior to copying the OS etc over if that would mean that the software wouldn't need reinstalling? I hope this is clear...

So now that the new imacs have arrived, it's time to sell my old imac and my boyfriend's old pc and use the new imac. I've figured out that we need Parallels and can use Transporter to bring in the necessary pc programs/copy of xp. I have an old pc. Celeron 600mhz processor, 376mb ram. The ram is maxed out (I believe) and the overhead of microsoft's anti-spyware combined with AVG antivrus, along with XP sp2, have slowed the machine to a crawl.
Is there a way to speed things up that is compatible with quicken 2004 and will leave me protected from net nasties?

For example, child A doesn't clean their room, so I want to disable internet while at work, from (8a-4p). Is there a way I can do this, some software? The connection is DSL.
