My XP desktop's motherboard spitzensparken. Kaput. Can anyone share advice on how best to migrate the contents of a crufty, crowded XP boot drive, to a new Vista system build, ideally booting on a new solid state drive? (Hardware recommendations on a new system are also welcome!)

I'm trying to get my old files off of an old Hard-disk. Old PC is XP newer PC is Vista. I removed the Hardisk from the OLD computer. I bought a USB to SATA/IDE cable. When I plug in the Hard-disk via USB, I hear the confirmation tone that you hear everytime you plug in a USB. I see a "ST340082 0AS SCSI Disk Device" in the "Safely remove hardware" icon in the tray. but I do not see the Drive. I can't really afford an External Hard drive. But I will eventually if I have to. Cna anyone help me please.

My trusty 3-year old home office PC is starting to drag a bit, so I'm thinking about replacing it. Should I bite the bullet and buy something with Vista? Go with XP, even if it means not getting the latest Intel processor? Or, should I wait until Windows 7?

I have recently received a brand new HP530 laptop sporting an Intel Celeron M chip at 1.6GHz running a pre-installed version of Microsoft Windows Home Basic. Lovely to look at, but I rapidly came to grief attempting to connect to my BT HomeHub WLAN which works just fine for my iMac and another laptop PC.

I was working on a paper last night, basically half dead, and somehow I managed to change my toolbar.
Here is a picture (Click on it for a close up with a helpful paint arrow). Instead of being a row of my windows, it now shows two of the windows open (icon only) with a scroll bar on the right side. I have Vista Home Premium 32. This is a major annoyance because I'm trying to write papers and I have about a billion windows open, so any help received, I'm grateful for.

A friend had a question I was uncertain about... is there a way on a laptop running Vista -- short of having two sound cards -- where you can have Ventrillo voice chat through any kind of headphones, while at the same time having entirely seperate streaming radio playing to speakers through the audio out port on the laptop?
She's open to any kind of headphones or any streaming audio software which would support this. Failing this... is there a good, simple, ideally non-invasive workaround to add a second sound card to a laptop?
