OSX application for displaying text as one line and scrolling it sideways - like a news ticker? Is there an application for OSX (Tiger) that will let me paste in text and then display it as one long line, scrolling it sideways? Like a news ticker, but with text that I paste in/select? My Google-fu has failed me.

Making Firefox Copy and Paste HTML Code?

Is there a Firefox extension — preferably a Firefox 2 extension — that will alter Firefox's copying behavior so that, when you copy something, it is copied to the clipboard (or pasted from the clipboard) as its HTML, instead of plain text? For example, if I were to copy this text:

I usually use Google as my search engine.

to the clipboard, it would be pasted as:

I usually use Google as my search engine.

Is there a Firefox extension that would result in the pasting instead being:

I usually use <A HREF="http://www.google.com">Google<A> as my search engine.

I know there are a few Windows-only Firefox extensions out there. Ideally this'd be a crossplatform extension: I use a Windows Firefox on a thumb drive and a Mac Firefox at home, and would like this functionality in both places.

If I get the option of being really picky, this would preferably replace the functionality of copy/paste as opposed to requiring me to learn a new keystroke ...

how to wash out flour?

How do I wash flour out of my towels? What do I do with the towels I use for breadmaking? I have some flour sack towels that are covered in copious amounts of flour. Dough has stuck to some of them and dried into a hard mass. I'd like to wash them out and reuse them, but I'm worried about making a batch of wheat-paste in my washing machine. How do I wash these things without making a bigger mess than I started with?

MacOSX: Pasting text when edit menu is disabled?

Mac OS X: Is there any way to paste text when a program disables the edit menu? With Quicksilver, maybe? I'd like to paste addresses into my label making program (Brother's P-touch Editor v.3.2), but unfortunately, it's pretty badly programmed, and disables the edit menu when I bring up the dialogue box to insert text. Is there a way to get around this. perhaps with Quicksilver?

(Note: While I'm not very experienced with QS, I tried to take some text, copy it to QS's clipboard, bring up the clipboard when the Label software's dialogue box was open, and paste it without any luck. Dragging and dropping the clipboard entry doesnt work either. Any ideas?)

Copy and paste in XP: Why not?

Help us get rid of this Copy/Paste problem we're having in Windows XP Pro // SP2! Throughout the office, we are unable to consistently copy and paste in Windows XP Professional. It acts as though the Clipboard is full, but when looking at Clipbook Viewer, there's nothing there! Restarting sometimes takes care of this, but it's a temporary reprieve until the problem starts again.

I've got AVG installed and ran a complete scan with no results. I've also run AdAware and SpyBot in an effort to purge this problem, and there's no joy in Mudville. Googling turns up nothing resembling help, so I turn to you, the green and ask you kindly for any input you may have on this manner.

CPU heat epoxy solvent?

How can I de-epoxy my P4 from its heatsink? I have a 3+ year old Pentium 4 based system - socket 478 - that right now is idling at around 61 degrees centigrade. Not good, and can only manage about 10 minutes of uptime before it hard boots itself to prevent burnout. So I bought new thermal paste, but it looks like the CPU die is epoxied to the heatsink. I haven't tried too too hard, but it seems to be stuck on there pretty solid. So is there a solvent for heat epoxy? Any other solutions?

things fall apart

I need to be gluing paper to paper for long lasting results. Please help me find a glue that will not let go! I have this hobby, I make greeting cards. Mostly I use scrapbook materials on prefolded cardstock (I used to cut my own card, but that is time consuming.) My problem is that after a few days/weeks/months depending on nothing that I can discern, things fall apart. My favorite so far is the Elmer's brand spray adhesive in the blue can. But even though I slap things together instantly, the pieces peel apart and leave my recipients with a piece of paper and some large confetti.

No glue stick has ever satisfied me, not even the Uhu. Bottle glue is gloopy and when it dries, boy it's hard as a rock, not at all as flexible as I need. I have glue pens that seem to be really effective for keeping the little flowers and small things in place, and I really like the foam dots that add dimension to stuff, but neither is practical for large surface area.

I've searched the website www.thistothat.com for paper to paper and wonder if I should bother with the 3M 77 or the Rhoplex or if anyone out there has had better luck with other stuff.

Oh, and double sided tape just lets go too, after a while.

I'm in Florida, so part of this might be the extreme humidity that I face here on the west coast. Part of it could be heat (we don't use the A/C at my house and I don't want to start) and maybe it's just that I've spent all this money amassing this hobby (which I've done for 5+ years and don't want to give up) and getting results that my friends find really professional, but long term disappointing.

Oh, and paste would be fine too, since the only difference between paste and glue is origin (plant vs. animal). Just help me stop sending out dweeby fall apart stuff.

Why is Microsoft Word pasting a thousand pages of copied text?

I'm asking on behalf of a fellow law student who is having a big, fat laptop problem as we fast approach the zero our for our finals.

She copies some lines of text in Microsoft Word. When she pastes them, Word pastes literally a thousand pages of the same lines of text into the document. This isn't happening in any other programs, but her computer does seem to be running pretty hot for no reason that we can discern. What the hell is going on? It's an HP Pavilion laptop running Windows XP home and Office XP. We ran AdAware and SpyBot (thus reaching the limits of my Windows troubleshooting skills) and that didn't fix it.

How can I tube this paste?

I want to take a food product with a paste-like consistancy and put it in a tube. Is there any way to do this from home, on a small to medium scale? I'm looking for something like a "home tubing system", like a kit or something that comes with tubing and caps that you can fill and cut and close yourself (something like homemade toothpaste). Does anything like that exist? Or, failing that, does anyone know the cheapest/easiest way to get this done?

Is there a way to cut'n'paste charts from Excel into Word, without generating huge Word files? I've tried varieties of paste, 'paste special,' and so on, and I can't figure out why an Excel file of charts that's several hundred KB, always turns into a Word file that's at least several MB. I guess I'm missing something obvious, but have no idea what it is.
