I am looking for a password keeper app for my iPhone. Ideally it would be able to open a specific URL and autopopulate the User ID and Password fields. Personal experience with your suggestions is a big plus. Thank you!

Is my password safe after a "System Tool" malware infection?
Can malware (system tool) use a proxy or key logger or otherwise detect bank account passwords accessed with the
(hopefully previously) infected computer.
How can one be sure the infection is totally removed?

How are passwords stored in systems that require the user to enter specific digits of their password? I am familiar with encryption techniques such as MD5 hashes, but I can't see a way in which a system would store the entire encrypted password, and still be able to authenticate individual characters, unless the password is stored in plain text, which seems unlikely for a bank. How do I get my Mac to prompt me for a password hint on the startup screen?? I reset my password last week and I copied and pasted it in the password hint in case I forgot. It turns out I did. But for some reason it won't prompt me for a hint even though I have been trying to guess over and over incorrectly. [more inside]

My Mac (10.3.9) seems to be automatically providing an outdated network password to my work network. Since the password is consistently wrong, it's causing my new, working password to lock up. Where might that password be stored? I've already removed anything from the key chain. [more inside]

Install Linux or windows without a cd drive or usb just direct access to the hard drive. I have an old cf-29 toughbook by Panasonic that I've had for years. I'm trying to resurrect it and for the life of me cant remember my own cmos password. Aside from possibly nuking the bios password which will be near impossible due to the NATO standards this notebook was built to. I was thinking I would just try to install an OS directly to the hard drive and simply transplant it back into the toughbook. [more inside]

I need to send an MP3 music file to a number of email addresses. I want to do this by directing people to a download on a web link, rather than emailing the (large) file direct.
I also want to be able to password-protect the file in that link (either the file or the link), so the music doesn't get passed around beyond the list of recipients.
Does anyone know of any good resources for this?
Thanks, oh wise ones.

Tell me about the early days of using passwords to verify information on computers or over the telephone:
1. When we're people first expected to do so?
2. Did it seem weird to you at the time?
3. Was there anything analogous to the password concept at the time?
4. (Most important to me) How was the concept introduced to the public? [more inside]

Gmail security: Someone keeps trying to recover, or change, the password for my gmail account. I'd previously set my gmail recovery option to send me an SMS, and I'm getting a lot of SMSes saying, "Your Google Account recovery code is: ... If you did not request this code, you can safely ignore this message". I've already changed my secret question to be really obscure, but what else should I do to protect my account? Every couple of weeks, I get bombarded with SMSes because someone is trying to access my account. Can I temporarily disable the recovery option? I'm just worried that someone might guess the answer to my secret question by brute force or some other means.

PasswordBuffooneryFilter: I've had a Hotmail account for eons, don't use it a ton, get a couple things sent there on an ongoing basis. Had the password stored via Firefox and it has disappeared from the remember-password feature. It's been long enough that I don't remember the password-recovery info (favorite pet, etc.) and I didn't register an alternate e-mail (that they would use to send me the means to access the account). Based on the Microsoft info I've slogged through and Internet searches, it seems I'm sunk. Or am I?? Much gratitude for any help folks can provide.
