I have an idea in mind that would be centered around a fake passport-like document taken to specific, fun places around the world. Not something fake enough to break laws, but fake enough to be something fun to carry around, not look cheap, and be durable to carry around and get stamped when requested. Where would I go to get something like this made? [more inside]

Passport emergency - My sister's passport seems to have gotten lost in the mail, and she needs to get a new one immediately - like, within the next day, or on Saturday. What companies/businesses do you know about that are reliable that will do this service for her? [more inside]

Is this something I should call the State Department about or is it just a tempest in a teapot?
I just got my renewed passport. In the back, where it plainly says to write in pencil, I wrote the wrong name
in pen. I'm thinking I can't white it out (or whatever the 21st century equivalent is) because that would raise all sorts of red flags at customs. It would, right?? And what about just crossing out the wrong name and inserting the right one, in pencil, above?
Anyone have any experience in this? Thanks.

[When-to-change-name-filter] We were married by a judge in June 2010. Our big wedding is this May 2011. We're filing taxes jointly in a month or so. We're going on an out-of-country honeymoon in June 2011. Taking all of that into mind, when is it going to be easiest for me to legally take his name? [more inside]

It's time to renew my US passport book; is there any reason to get the passport card as well? I don't live close enough to the Mexican or Canadian border to make spontaneous day trips where I might not be carrying my passport.

How terrible is it to board a plane without a photo ID? I plan to fly to another state in late December and have no picture ID. I will have photocopies of my birth certificate and social security card. I know flying without photo ID is technically legal, but can be a huge pain. Has anyone done this before? [more inside]

I lost my last form of picture ID, and I don't think I have enough secondary forms to earn points for a new one because I'm paid under the table. Can I ask one of the companies for whom I once freelanced to send me an old W-2 form? Can they also send me old pay stubs? [more inside]

My married name was "Jane Whatever Doe". I got divorced a while back and my legal (according to Social Security) name is "Jane Whatever Smith." Everyone in the art world knows me by my married name of "Jane Doe," so my driver's license says "Jane Whatever Smith-Doe." Are you confused yet? More within... [more inside]

Do to a family medical emergency, my wife and I are probably going to be renting a car and driving from Philadelphia to Toronto tomorrow night. We are both Canadians living in the US on temporary NAFTA visas. Fun complication: Our daughter is four months old and is an American citizen with an American birth certificate. We haven't yet gotten her a passport or applied for her Canadian citizenship.
Should we expect to have any difficulty crossing the border with her, in either direction? Is there anything we can get in the next 24 hours to make things go more smoothly?

I am in a bit of a bureaucratic bind and I need some advice. Short story: I leave for a trip in 10 days and at this point have no visa for the country that I will be living in for a year. The consulate just emailed me a couple of hours ago and informed me that I need to send my passport to them (who are located in a city 12 hours away) in order that they can issue me the visa. Problem: I have been trying to get this visa for months now, and they have been terribly slow every step of the way. I am worried that I will not get my passport back in time before my flight. What do I do? [more inside]
