I flew into Cancun from the US yesterday and stupidly did not check the expiration date on my passport. The US Consular Agency in Cancun opens 8AM tomorrow, and my flight back to the US is at 2:30PM on Tuesday. I'll go to the Consular Agency as soon as they open, but does anyone know what I should expect? Is there a chance to receive emergency travel documents on the same day, or will I have to change my flight?

I want to make a daytrip into Matamoras, Mexico in about a month. I've done this several times in the past (mostly to Neuvo Laredo) but right now I do not have a passport. Has the North American 'passport-only' travel rule taken into effect yet, or does it kick in January 1st like my father says? [more inside]
