SederFilter: I'm having my first Passover Seder and I asked guests to bring food to share. They asked me what they ought to bring. So, what are your favorite passover-appropriate recipes? I'm not religious, but was raised Jewish, and thought it would be fun to have a Seder with my (twenty-something) friends (gentile and otherwise) where we can turn it into the red-wine-drinking game that I've always thought the holiday was intended as.

So what should I ask my friends to make and bring? Recipes for foods actual crucial to the Seder are welcome, but I'll be hitting up my mother for those. What else? I'd like to keep it kosher-for-passover, but don't really care about actual kosher-ness.

Passover Coke in the Philly Area?

Where can I find Passover Coca-Cola in the Philly, PA area? I live about 10 minutes east of King of Prussia, PA. I've really wanted to try and get a bottle of Passover Coke, but have not been able to find any in the local grocery stores. I would prefer avoiding having to drive into the city, as I hate driving in the city. I'm going to be in the Ardmore area this weekend. Does anyone know of specific stores around there or in the surrounding areas that are selling it?

How do I have a seder-less Passover?

How do I observe Passover alone? Should I just forget it? How do I observe Passover alone in a small town that's predominantly Catholic, Methodist and Baptist? Am one of very few Jews, most of whom are not observant and don't have Seders. But I would like to observe Passover somehow, even if it's just reading to myself. (Spouse, albeit a heathen... er, a nonbeliever, is tolerant of my religious side.) I'm not upset that there's no Seder to be found for hundreds of miles, but I'd like to commemorate Pesach. Ideas?

Any interesting, meaningful readings for a liberal Passover Seder on the theme of hope?

Any interesting, meaningful readings for a liberal Passover Seder on the theme of hope? My friend is hosting a Passover Seder, and asked me to help him find readings on the theme of hope. It's a very liberal group, and not everyone at the dinner will be Jewish. (Personally, I'm not religious at all.) Last year, he gave a little free-form nondenominational speech/lecture and passed out a xeroxed packet of readings like a college professor. He seemed to think Reinhold Niebuhr might have something interesting; poetry, philosophy, thoughts on the election...anything you think might be appropriate would be most welcome!

Photos printed during Passover?

Where can I have photos printed in NYC over Passover? (A friend asks): My two favorite photo printing places, Adorama and B&H are closed over Passover. Unfortunately, my design thesis is presented over Passover. Where can I get a bunch of high-quality photos printed? Qualifications:

1. It would be great if I could upload the photos over the web.

2. I need to be able to get their color profile.

3. Luster paper would be ideal, not just matte and glossy.

4. A quick turn-around time, bonus points for delivery in Manhattan.

Passover Food in PDX

Stores that carry Passover food in Portland, OR? I don't celebrate the holiday anymore, but every time Passover rolls around I start craving the holiday treats. Macaroons, soup nuts, honey cake. All of that. Unfortunately, the main grocery stores (Safeway, Fred Meyers) don't have much of a selection, if at all. There must be a place in the metro area where I can satisfy my Passover cravings, right? I imagine there are places in the West Hills, but my knowledge of that area is extremely limited. Please help!

Self-hating Jew filter/ Gefilter

Help me remember which of Woody Allen's movies contains this scene... ...in it, Allen dons fake sidecurls and a Hassidic-style hat and gives a mock lecture on the meaning of Passover. Note: this is not the scene in "Annie Hall" when Annie's anti-Semitic grandmother looks at Allen at her dinner table and sees him in ultra-orthodox garb. IMDB, unfortunately, doesn't seem to mention it, but I believe it's in one of his earlier films (i.e. the era of "Bananas").

I promise it's for a good cause. Thanks to all!

kosher vs. kosher-for-passover

Kosher vs. kosher-for-passover: what's the real deal here? Can something be "Kosher for Passover" that is NOT ordinarily kosher the rest of the year? That would seem like a mighty expensive proposition, to me.... (vs. say, some foodstuff that is typically kosher all year, but only needs to be certified hometz-free for Passover, after which it goes back to being ordinary Kosher)

How can my Jewish girlfriend and I find a family to have a Passover Seder with in Bordeaux, France? My girlfriend and I are studying in France for a semester, and we will be in Bordeaux on April 2nd, the first day of Passover. She wants to see if we can join a Jewish family for Seder that evening. It's really important to her. The problem is, we don't know a single soul in Bordeaux, and the temples in Bordeaux are charging more than our backpackers' wallets can afford for a Seder ceremony.

How can we find a Jewish family for this year's Passover in Bordeaux? Bonus points if you can tell us how to find a Jewish reform family!

What is there for a wheat gluten allergy sufferer on Passover?

What is a Matzos substitute for someone with a wheat gluten allergy? Passover is almost upon us, and I'm serving dinner to a group that includes meat eaters, vegetarians, and a meat eater with a wheat gluten allergy. I was veggie for years, so I'm going to wow them with my vegetarian-eggplant-matzos-lasgana and I'm doing baked chicken to satisfy the meat eaters.

However, I am stumped by what to serve the wheat-gluten allergy during the sedar as a substitute for matzos!

I am not super religious, and the fellow with the wheat gluten allergy isn't even Jewish, so I don't think it's worth it to order him a special kosher-for-passover rice cake. However, I am reluctant to serve a regular rice cake, because usually draw my religious line at not having breadlike risen items at Passover dinner. I *will* for an allergy, but only if the hive can't think of something better.

All ideas appreciated!

Something to discuss at Passover seder?

Where to find Passover Coke in Northern Virginia?

Where can I find Passover Coke in Fairfax County, Virginia? For those who don't know: Ashkenazic Jews can't eat or drink anything with corn (among many other things) during Passover. This means high fructose corn syrup, which is what Coke and most other sodas are sweetened with, is out. To accommodate them, every year Coke produces Coca-Cola Classic and Sprite that is kosher for Passover, by making it with sugar instead of corn syrup. You can tell which (two-liter) Coke is Passover Coke because it has a yellow cap with "OU-P" stamped on the top.

Not only is this Passover Coke acceptable for Ashkenazic Jews to drink--it also tastes much, much better (in most people's opinions) because it's not as sweet.

I live in Reston, Va., and work in Chantilly. I've checked most of the local grocery stores (and I'm checking Wegman's tomorrow), but with no luck so far. If you know of any place that stocks it or might stock it, please let me know.
