Birthday party favour ideas for kids under 8

Birthday party favour ideas for kids under 8? I’m planning a party for my 5-year-old daughter. There will be about 18 girls and boys ranging in age from 4-8. What can I give them as party favours? I like to give one useful item rather than a goody bag filled with trinkets. I don’t want to spend more than $4 per favour. In the past I’ve given jigsaw puzzles, jump ropes, balls, Hot Wheels, and Polly Pockets. [more inside]

Taking Advantage of an Empty Room

My old roommate has moved out and the new one doesn't move in for a few weeks. My living room is practically empty and it occurred to me I should take advantage of this. What kind of party (or anything) could I throw to take advantage of this that I couldn't otherwise. No foam parties; research indicates that's a bad idea.

Help dress me! (For a themed party).

I've been invited to a themed party with the following costume rules: Invasion, conquest, exploration, assimilation, sovereignty, or superheroes who save the world! and I have no idea what to wear. Any ideas would be awesome. It's tomorrow night, so I don't have much time to get stuff, and something warm would be preferable (it's damn cold right now).

Space-Age Bachleor Pa-aaaah Oh God No!

Music Mix Filter: Long story short, next week the model at my event is coming dressed as the Alien Queen from the ALIEN movies. I have no idea what kind of music to play for the background. The film scores seem obvious but who wants to listen to clanking and increasing strings for 3 hours? I can either go scary-horror-sci-fi or campy-alien-novelty songs. Ideally I could do both. What kind of weird space music recommendations do you have? Gotta have songs about alien invaders?
