Bachelorette in DC?

Looking for a couple of nice, loungey spaces for a gathering of about 6 pretty relaxed women (mid-20's) in DC on a Thursday evening. The bride is pretty low-key, but loves 90's dance music. Ideally, we would: 1) relax at a pool during the afternoon 2) Have a relaxed dinner 3) Drinks at a lounge or low-key club Looking for suggestions for #1 and #3! Thank you!

'We like you fine, but we're not buying dinner for you.'

We met with a potential wedding reception venue today to get a quote, and the owner suggested that we can invite some people just to the party after the ceremony and dinner. From a cost cutting perspective that sounds awesome. But is it just too squicky, etiquette-wise? [more inside]

What do you mean there's no dinner?!

We're in the process of planning out a wedding, and we've decided to go with a full-on cocktail party instead of a sit-down dinner. The caterer we spoke to was very hesitant about this idea. Help us not fuck this up. [more inside]

How do we make our gigantic wedding feel intimate and special?

What are ways to make a really large wedding feel intimate and special? My boyfriend and I just engaged (yay!) and we are super excited to be married to each other. We're also super excited to have a wedding: we're taking a relatively relaxed, guests-first approach to the ceremony and reception, with the goals of the whole thing feeling (1) intimate, (2) special, (3) really, really fun. All this was eminently doable when we thought the guest list was going to be 75. But now, many difficult conversations with our parents later, we're facing down a guest list of over 250, and I'm at a loss as to how to still hit our mood/vibe/emotional atmosphere goals. Pick A Place To Party

I want to rent an event space in NYC. Where do I start? It's basically a wedding reception without the wedding, I'd like it to hold about eighty people, with an open bar and using my own caterers. It should be three hours booked at least. I'd like it in Manhattan but totally open to nearer Brooklyn and Queens. What do I need to know and where should I go in getting a space for late October? Having a Fashion Emergency!

Going to an engagement party tonight, as a guest. Is it okay if I wear a white dress? Is it a faux pas? The dress is a simple white shift mini dress with cap sleeves and silver flecks. I'm wearing opaque black pantyhose to give it a mod look, but I have been told with a 50/50 response that it's not okay to wear white to an engagement party. What do you think?
