Is it normal to evolve your political ideology with age?

I'm a 24-year old grad student who was raised in a very GOP household. I think I'm moving away from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party ideologically speaking. Is there something wrong with me? Is this normal? [more inside]

Super Bowl party food, 2016 edition

I'm looking for a recipe for a dish to bring to a Super Bowl party, but there are two complications: It has to relate to either the city in which the game is being played or to one the teams that are playing. In addition, we won't have time to do anything complicated on the day of the game. [more inside]

Los Angeles Company Holiday Party - You are seriously, my only hope.

We are completely lost for ideas. The last 4 years our non-profit group has held our holiday party at a Thai restaurant, at which, 2 employees couldn't eat because, peanuts. Our budget is around $42 per person (give or take). We are 30 employees. We need a private room. We are located in West L.A. Staff is willing to travel as far south as Culver City-ish. [more inside]

What party/snack food can we make with Japanese Curry mix?

We are trying to clean out our pantry in advance of a house move, and want to use as much as possible to make snacks for our goodbye-old-house party. One of the things in our pantry is a box of S&B Japanese Curry mix (medium hot). Given that a big pot of curry isn't really a good finger food, what would you suggest we make with it? (For those who are not familiar with this ingredient, it is not a powder, but more like a stew/sauce base.)

Viking party music?

I'm helping find music for a Viking-themed party that would be both fitting and fun to dance to. I've got some viking metal, but that is more head-banging than the booty-shaking I am hoping for. What is the Gogol Bordello of viking bands, or the electroswing of viking music?

Playlist halp: happy retro instrumental cocktail night?

Anywhere from Dixieland to Penguin Café Orchestra, via Django Reinhardt and something Latin, what musicians/tracks/albums can you suggest for a 4-hour playlist to make a happy, potentially boppable score to a cocktail party? Would be nice to divide it into intro, main and outro parts - but all suggestions are welcome for a fun, refined, vocal-less (or at least mainly so), non-pop soundtrack to a charming, light-hearted evening. (Bonus points if sourceable via Rdio.) Thanks!

Slumber party advice

My daughter is having a slumber party for her birthday. I'm used to (and comfortable with) normal birthday parties: planning lots of fun activities, yummy things to eat and keeping order with bouncing children for a few hours, but I'm worried about having a half dozen 7 & 8 year olds sleeping here. Those of you have done it -- what's your advice? Anything that would help this go well? [more inside]
