A bunch (8-10, possibly more) of friends and I want to rent a beach house or similar living situation for Thursday-Monday over the summer, either late June/early July or early August. Where should we go and how can we find affordable housing?

One of the downsides of being born in mid-January is that it's always snowing, which leads to a certain inertia when it comes to birthday parties. People don't like to expend the effort to come to a birthday until they think it's going to be exceptionally fun.

My step mom's friend has very generously offered to host my baby shower. So sweet and yay! Except... I've always sort of hated attending baby showers and I in general find them boring and socially awkward (hey people, come on over so I can feed you some sweets, just be sure to bring a really expensive crib with you). Is there anything I can do to steer the party into an occasion that's more fun for everyone?

We are having a brunch reception following a church wedding - the groom and I will likely be delayed by 30-45 minutes by photos and greetings so we want to have some sort of cocktail hour. We have the drinks sorted out, bloody marys and a mimosa bar, along with tea, coffee, etc, but we are stuck on what to serve as a light, savory snack during that time.

I've been invited to a Solstice party. The invitation says, "Please come with a symbol of light, wrapped to give away, and something to read about light, original or found." Nothing is popping into my head except a candle... and I already know someone bringing a candle. Ideas? Ideas for readings? I could do a Google search for either thing, but I'd be overwhelmed with results, I think. (And maybe there is a way to wrap the gift that goes along with the theme?)

Please tell me what I can do over the next 11 days to brighten up my skin, and particularly the skin on my back, so that my fellow employees aren't murmuring to each other, "So THAT's why she always wears a suit."

I am putting together a Seahawk Tailgate Party for a high school booster club auction. The party is for 20 people, on a Sunday Seahawk game. The party includes brats, buns, chips, cookies, beer, soda (to be delivered for a game day party) So far in the auction item, I have a 5L keg of beer, the Seahawks party goods, plates, napkins, tattoos. What else can you think of the make this item look great. Can you think of an interesting container for auction presentation? Looking for wow factor at a low cost. Thank you!
