What's that spicy smell in Park Slope?

There's something in the air around here lately - Park Slope, Brooklyn - that smells a lot like cloves or clove oil, and a bit like pipe tobacco. It came on strong yesterday afternoon and is still drifting around today. At first I thought it was a neighbor smoking something really strong, but it's too big for that. Then I thought of the spice processing plant on the other side of Prospect Park, but I used this as an excuse to visit the Botanic Garden today and it was definitely a cinnamon-coriander day at the plant.

Help me get to know Park Slope.

Help me get to know Park Slope. Months after this question, I have settled in Park Slope, on 8th Ave. and 4th St. So far I really like it, but I've only been here a couple of days.

Help me make sure I don't miss out on the good stuff.

Some starters:

Is it all about 5th Ave. and 7th Ave., or is there more?
How far are 5th and 7th Aves. worth exploring in each direction?
Which gym should I join?
Where is the best brunch?
Where is the brunch with the shortest wait?
If I'm just back from work, and want to get a bite to eat by myself in the neighborhood, where might I typically go?
Other than Manhattan, what are the places I can get to easily on the train that are worth going to? Other parts of Brooklyn, mainly.
Where should I shop for vintage furniture?
What coffee shops should I go to, to hang out and read?
Where are the good movie theaters (not just in Park Slope itself, but nearby)?
Which Park Slope or Brooklyn-related papers or blogs should I be reading?

I am capable of Googling, and I am doing so, but I would like personal recs based on actual experience from people who are responding to me specifically.

We Can't Dance If We Want To (Yet)

WeddingDance Filter: Need recommendations for a place to take dance lessons in NYC. Bonus points if it's close or convenient to Park Slope. The lady and I are getting married. I like dancing, and can fake my way through ballroom and swing stuff. She's not a big dancer, and is very hard to lead (she always tried to guess where she'll be lead, and invariably guesses wrong). We need a good place to learn social ballroom basics. And as much as I'd love to learn salsa, mambo, or merengue, I guarantee our first song won't be in one of those styles, so no places that teach exclusively Latin dances.

What is Sicilian Table Cheese?

Russo's Mozzarella & Pasta Corp. in Park Slope (NYC) makes an awesome "Sicilian Table Cheese." It is a sheep's milk cheese, with the consistency of cheddar, and it is full of peppercorns. I can find no references to it on Google. It is *amazing*. I'm wondering if they have invented it, or whether it has an Italian name that I don't know. Ideas?

NYC DMO Dentist?

Need a dentist in NYC who takes Aetna DMO. Midtown or Park Slope preferred, but any will do. My insurance runs out soon, and I need some fillings. I'm calling all over town to discover that almost no one who is recommended takes DMO.

Can anyone recommend a good tailor in the Park Slope area of Brooklyn (North Slope section and on Fifth Ave. ideally)? I need a suit taken in and some cuffs on suit pants that I recently bought. Thanks.
