London and Paris: what are the highlights for families with young children? I teach at an international school in Japan and one of my students is going to London, Paris, and St. Andrews in Scotland for her father's business trip. Her mother has asked me for recommendations of places to visit. [more inside]

I'm looking for books (in English) about Paris in 1899 for a research project. General cultural history is fine, as is a slightly broader period (1890-1910), but I'm looking for more than just a section in a larger French history book. Ideally, I'd find something like Margaret MacMillan's Paris 1919
, but for 1899. I'm having difficulty finding something this specific via Google/Amazon/the library, as there are thousands of listings for "Paris", so I'm hoping you'll recommend books you've enjoyed or found useful.

[ParisRestaurantFilter] Dinner in Paris! I'm looking for someones secret spot for dinner in paris. My significant other and I both like food but we're not fans of having to dress up (too much). This tends to work out well here in SF but not sure if its the same in the city of lights.

I'm looking for a brand of blue jeans in I bought in Paris several years ago. I don't think they are a French brand - no French on the labels. The word for the brand name, "Missy," refers to "an average female size" in America, so Google has been no help. They were bought in the 11e arrondissement
of Paris, probably sur
Rue du Faubourg-Saint Antoine, on the sidewalk in front of an unknown shop for €10 or €15. Here are pictures
of the tags, labels and buttons.

Recommendations for historical fiction about Paris? I'll be there for a couple of weeks, and have found that historical novels can really help me sink my teeth into a place. I have no particular era in mind, so the period is less important than the setting and the writing.

Me, wife, kids, sister and Mum want to spend the October half-term week (the last full week of October) in Paris. Hotels don't work well with tinies, so we're looking for a self-catering apartment.
Where would MeFites recommend, or recommend looking? Not fussed about location (within reason), but we like the 5e and 6e. We aren't on our upppers, but price is a factor (we only live in Brighton so this is more bonus extra holiday than Trip of a Lifetime).
Happy to use a company, or arrange something privately - even a house swap if people fancy a week in Britain's shingle capital

I've recently moved to Paris, and I'd like to know if there are any pubs where I can catch NFL games on Sunday nights. I know they will start pretty late in the evening, but I just want to have a beer and watch a game. Bonus points for places that might air Jets/Giants.

Help me buy a scooter in Paris. I've just moved to Paris for work, and will be getting my carte de sejour (longterm visa) in a few weeks. I would like to find a decent second-hand Vespa or something similar. Some of the questions I have: Can I get a nice ride for under 1000€? Will I need an expensive French license (I currently hold one from NJ)? What type of insurance will I need and how much should I expect to pay? I'm looking to buy in September, so any help would be appreciated!

I have a friend who has decided to go live in Paris for two months or more. She's searching for her next career and life move, and has always loved the City of Lights. I'm looking for a gift that is inspired, but practical. It also has to pack and travel well--not weigh her down. She's going to be free and hopes the city will be a sort of muse. She's set on luggage, has a place to stay, won't have a car, loves fashion, going out on the town, and I'm sure has plenty of maps.
Somewhere in the range of 100 euros.

I'm reading a book that has a lot of references to Paris between the wars and culture that flowed underneath it. The surrealist movement, people like Gertrude Stein, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, the brothels and debauchery, etc. Similar situations have happened everywhere - the Harlem Renaissance, the Beat Generation and countless others. I'm sure you can think of more.
My question is this: Where is this stuff happening now? [more inside]
