Your best recommendations for vegan food in Paris, please. Not looking so much for Michelin-rated/high-end suggestions (although those are fine, too). [more inside]
I'm attending a conference at Leiden University in about a month and a half, and urgently need to finalize my travel plans. I've never been able to visit Europe before, so I'm considering staying in Europe a few days after the conference. I don't want to spend a lot of time traveling, though, so I'm deciding between either spending the entire time in Leiden, or going to perhaps one other city. [more inside]
Difficulty: teenager. I'm visiting my family in France for the first time in a while, and we're going to Paris. Does anyone have recommendations for not-terribly-expensive restaurants a 13 year-old girl will be okay with? When I'm in Paris I rarely visit the same places twice other than L'As du Fallafel in le Marais, which obviously I'll recommend to them. We'll be close to Le Centre Pompidou.
My wife (C) is going to Paris soon. She'd like to use her current US iPhone there for voice & data, but is a bit technophobic about SIM-buying & -swapping. I'd like to get her a step-by-step how-to. [more inside]
Our family will be spending a few days in Paris in June. We're traveling with kids, so our plan is for a mostly low-key trip filled with lazily exploring the city, relaxing in parks, and eating pastries. But we're also looking for other unique or special experiences we could do as a family that would really make our trip special. [more inside]
A friend and I are taking a trip tomorrow to Lyon (from Berlin). We found this thread but want more information specific to Lyon. [more inside]
Every time I'm about to visit a new country I get fairly anxious about being a jerk. Aside from your usual "don't-be-inconsiderate-in-a-large-city" advice (I live in NY and am aware of typical "don't just stand in the middle of a busy sidewalk" rules, etc ), are there certain French-specific customs I should be aware of so I can at least pretend I'm a cool and wordly tourist instead of a bumbling jackass tourist? I will be attending an artist residency in Marnay-sur-Seine, France from late May through the end of June. I'd love any advice on the town, nearby places I should visit, things I should be aware of, etc. Some of my high priority travel interests include botanic gardens, zoos, aquariums, other plant and animal-related destinations, art, thrift shops, and vegetarian restaurants. You get to spend a week in New York, Paris or Rome, during which money isn't much of an object. You're not a millionaire by any means, but for once you're going to have a romantic holiday where you're not cutting costs by backpacking or AirBNBing or packing your own lunch or commuting from the outer rim every morning. I am visiting Paris for 5 days with my mother for her 70th birthday in two weeks time and would like some advice on how to make this trip as stress free as possible for us both, my Mum has full mobility but low energy and large crowds of people, long walks and lots of stairs are not really doable for us on this trip. What is the best city in Western Europe in which to spend Christmas? My spouse and I have decided to spend Christmas and New Year's in Europe! We will be going to Athens for New Year's Eve, but we aren't sure where we should spend Christmas, and the days leading up to it. [more inside]

Flat for entirety of June in Paris, with my British sister meeting me in Deauville for two days. I haven't left the USA since before 9/11, and my partner hasn't since he was a kid. I need ALL THE ADVICE: apps to help, other day trips, is Italy feasible sans car, June weather, language sites -- I am combing MeFi but am just overwhelmed, and fearful older content is out of date. I am booking a trip where the most cost-effective option will have me spending about 24 hours alone in Paris with nothing much to do. I've been many times before, done all the tourist stuff, and honestly, don't really like the city. Some bad memories plus something about France just doesn't sit right with me. What's the least Paris-like place in Paris where I can enjoy my day/evening? [more inside]
Mr. Kitty and I got into the Paris Marathon for 2015 (yay!) We decided to make it a long vacation. We plan on spending 3 weeks in France - the first week will be mostly adjusting to time difference, marathon running, and recovery. The second week actually exploring Paris, and the third week....is a giant question mark [more inside]
Going on honeymoon in June to Paris. I have a friend who runs a business renting apartments in Paris for a month at a time, and he's just sent me the first two options. One costs 1390 Euro, the other 1250 Euro. Both are crazy good locations with crucial amenities like bathrooms. Is this about right, or should we ask for cheaper quotes? [more inside]
My girlfriend and I have won a week's holiday in Paris over the new year period. Flights, bed, and breakfast are covered -- how can we stretch our food and entertainment budget? [more inside]
I will be in Paris for a week and some change between Christmas and New Years. I've been before so I know all the standard tourist spots- but I know the holiday season will mess up openings and closings so I'm interested in fun, interesting things and places ...that will be open. Ideally looking for performances, music, English-language theater, etc. I'll be traveling with a classical musician with a fondness for opera, so looking for things along those lines. Any seasonally specific events or things I shouldn't miss?
I'm going to be doing two medium-long (6-8 hour) layovers in Paris soon and I want to spend them riding around on a bike using the Velib bikeshare system. What are the best places to do this, using one of the RER B stations as a jumping-off point? [more inside]
My mother is here in Europe for a visit. Unfortunately, she's not up to par in terms of walking fitness in recent months, and I've booked us a trip via Ryanair to Paris. I'm quite clear on getting out of Beauvais via the shuttle, but 1) would it be worth it or is it possible to take a taxi directly into Paris; or 2) how do I go about getting a taxi once we're in Porte Maillot? My French is extremely basic but we're both fluent English speakers. She's also very used to cars.
Looking for Parisian hotels in Monmartre or in central Paris with US-quality wifi or Internet access during the Christmas season. No wifi tokens or credits or anything like that, looking for flat fee wifi within guest rooms for at least one device. That the hotel be nice to stay at is a plus.

In June, I'm going to Paris for a conference. I'm planning on booking a room in Alfortville, whilst the conference is in the 7th arr., on the Boulevard de la Tour-Maubourg. I'll need to take the RER D for an 8.30 start in the morning, returning in the evening. Anyone have any idea how long the journey will take? How reliable is public transport in Paris? And is this particular line dodgy? Thanks

I’m currently based in Andalucía, Spain, teaching English for the school year, and am planning to visit neighboring France during Christmas vacation. France fascinates me and will be the first country I visit outside of Spain during my time in Europe, but to be honest: I know nothing. I have approximately 13 days to spend in the country, I would like to see Paris and a few other sites in the northwest, and I will probably enter the country on the Mediterranean coast (from Spain) and leave via the Basque Country (to return to Spain). What should I see? [more inside]
Where would you go in France if you had a week to get from Paris to Geneva? My husband and I (early 30s) are planning a trip and am not sure how to fill that space or where to go. We would prefer trains to renting a car, and the only restriction is that we'd like to spend a night or two in Annecy. [more inside]

I'm planning a trip to Paris from Boston for my family (wife, 3 girls 13, 11, 9) sometime over the summer. I don't know what I'm doing. How do I find the least expensive flights? Are there tricks to knowing when to leave and return? e.g. are there travel days that get better rates; leave on a Wednesday and return on Monday for cheapest flights? What's the minimum number of days we should stay to make it worth the trip? I was thinking 5-6 days. Is July better than August in Paris? Do you have a favorite place to stay while in Paris? hotel? b&b? youth hostel? Thank you!
What specialty food items should I bring back from Paris and London? I am traveling to both places in May. Can you recommend some unique and delicious food items I can bring back with me? (Any other travel recommendations are welcome as well!)
I have to be in Paris for an academic conference on May 31 to June 1st. On June 2nd, there's a marathon in Sauternes, which appears to be about 6-7 hours south-west of Paris by car. My question is (1) having never been to France, and never traveled around Europe except by train and since college, can I get from Paris to Sauternes in time to run the race at 8:30am the next morning realistically? And (2) can you help me logistically plan this ahead of time so that it minimizes risk of getting lost, missing the race, and spending a lot of money? I will be flying out of Paris, fyi, and haven't booked any flights yet.
