My late grandfather painted an interpretation
of one of Maurice Utrillo's depictions of the "Maquis" of Montmartre, in Utrillo's time a very poor area
of the well-known Paris neighbourhood. Which Utrillo work did my granddad use as a blueprint, and where exactly was Utrillo's vantage point? [more inside]

Thinking of visiting London and Paris next year...also been getting into pastels so would like to hit up art museums with a good number of quality pastel paintings by Degas, Renoir, etc. (prefer impressionist style). Which museums provide this abundance? I'm thinking the Musée d'Orsay, maybe the Louvre...anywhere else?

In 2000-2001, there was a video art exhibit at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. It featured neatly dressed American auctioneers talking in that high-speed almost unintelligible way, quickly reciting the bids to an audience that wasn't there, in front of a variety of landscapes. One was a stocky woman in a business skirt two-piece set walking slowly at dusk with a dark building in the back. Can you find the artist's work? Or point me to the artist?

Just finished reading Hemingway's Moveable Feast, and want more. Specifically, more about the time and place - Paris in the 20s, the Lost Generation, novelists, artists, poets, patrons and the hangers-on. Suggestions welcome for the best of anything with that flavour: biographies, novels (from then or now), films.

Does anyone know of any cool small independent artist run centers in Paris, France?
Searching "Paris" and anything to do with art is overwhelming and not helping me find what I am looking for. [more inside]

About a month ago I saw an exhibit at Le Palais de Tokyo in Paris that included tree-like sculptures set around big, white, globe-shaped lights. Does anyone know the artist's name?
