Burnt pancakes :(

How should I go about cleaning this? I was making pancakes this morning to celebrate a day off of work, but I got caught up in a website and left it to burn terribly in the pan.

Now it's completely burnt to the pan and won't come off. I've managed to scrape some off with a spoon, but it looks like I'm scratching the pan with it.

Please help!

호떡 at Home

KoreanFoodFilter: I'm hankering for hoddeok (호떡). Help me out! In my recent trip to Seoul I fell in love with hoddeok, the filled pancakes served as street food throughout Seoul, hot off the griddle or deep fryer. Do you have a recipe for these that you're happy with? I've found one or two while searching online, but I don't know how accurate they are. Share you recipes and tips with me so that I can make these tasty morsels at home! For bonus points: are the hoddeok on the streets of Seoul made with wheat flour or rice flour?

What non-pancakes can I make out of pancake mix?

I've somehow ended up with 5 lb (2 kg) of Krusteaz pancake mix. Pancakes, fruit, and syrup are getting boring, and I don't have a waffle maker. Is there anything else I can make with pancake mix, other than pancakes? Or are there any other awesome things I can add to pancakes, to make them less boring? I've done my googling, but all I can come up with are recipes for making ... more pancakes! Ahhh! Help!

Temple of pancakes

Does anyone remember a comedian doing a bit about how his accountant's office was an old Ihop and he wanted to ask his accountant for pancakes? he called the Ihop the Temple of Pancakes and he kept saying "and some pancakes...." Ok you guys. It is driving me nuts. Does anyone remember a comedian doing a bit about how his accountant's office was an old Ihop and he wanted to ask his accountant for pancakes? he called the Ihop the Temple of Pancakes and he kept saying "and some pancakes...." which I still say all the time, and I'd love to show my husband where this came from - I just can't remember the comedian. Anyone know who this was?

Scary waffles

How do you know when sourdough starter goes bad? This morning ms. umbú and I had some sourdough waffles using our jar of her family's 40-year old sourdough starter. They were great: airy and tangy, as they should be. If you've never had sourdough waffles or pancakes, you should. They're amazing.

The thing is, we almost didn't make them because it has been a while since we used the mason jar of starter, and sitting in the back of the fridge it has gotten pretty scary looking. There was some black liquid settling on top, for example, more dramatically than usual.

Now I know the starter is supposed to be alive and changing. However, is there a certain point where it passes a point of no return and you should no longer eat it? If so, how do you know when it has passed that point?

A recommendation for a place in London to get a hearty American-style breakfast? Ideally this would include buttermilk pancakes, omelettes, bacon, hash browns, coffee etc. I'd prefer a non-chain place. And any place that serves black pudding for breakfast (that link is to Christopher's) is automatically disqualified. :)

Thanks!!

Hey Pancakes!

Calling experienced cooks: What would cause pancakes to come out dull and tortilla-like in appearance rather than a scrumptuous dark brown? I see this happen from time to time when I make pancakes (incl. from mix) and I don't know what causes it. When this happens, no matter how long I leave the pancakes on there, they don't toast up to any decent shade of brown. Could it be related to using milk instead of water in the mix?

What are these Russian foods called?

While on exchange in Russia (near Novgorod), I was served two foods that I loved but have not been able to find again, and don't know the names for. First was a confection -- semi-dried but juicy berries covered in powdered sugar, about the size of blueberries, but red with lots of little seeds, that came in a small box. Second was a cake that seemed to be made of dozens of layered pancakes with some sort of cream or frosting in between. Anyone know what these are, and where I can find them or a recipe for them in the US?

Bring out your pancakes!

To celebrate this day of days, we're having a little pancake party. Can you recommend some nice simple pancake fillings/toppings, both savoury and sweet? Ideas based around ingredients available at a fairly smallish supermarket (A Tesco Metro for UK readers) would be most welcome, though don't let that hold anyone back if they have more complex input that might inspire someone else to flights of batter-based fantasy.
