Next up: how can I, at 5' tall, put up wallpaper without suffering a nervous breakdown?

Bought a house, hence the DecorateMyBedroomFilter! DYI: how do I put up a curtain rod for a window whose corner meets a slanted ceiling? Décor: what kind of wallpaper should I put up on a single accent wall of my otherwise very white and neutrally furnished bedroom? What is the best way to put up curtains on the big window in this picture? There is no room for a rod bracket on the left side (plenty of room to the right, including enough room to pull the curtains out of the way). There will be cream roller shades mounted on the inside of the frame – I just want to add an extra layer of white/ombre/gray? curtains to soften up the room and add texture, but I don’t see a way to put up a bracket on the left other than drilling a hole in the ceiling and letting a curtain rod rest in it on the left side. Is that a terrible idea?

Regarding wallpaper: the walls are textured and painted a very bright white (hard to make out in the photo) which I like. I do, however, want to put wallpaper on a single wall, the one behind the headboard. The staging furniture and art will be gone, the reading lights will stay; this is my bedroom furniture. I don’t like bright colors in bedrooms and will most likely repaint the balcony that can be seen on the outside in a blue shade (indigo? go bold with cobalt?).

So far, my favorite wallpaper is Spiro by Kreme, but (a) it is very expensive and (b) it might not look that great with the very white walls, which I do not want to repaint. Since the floors are so dark, I should probably stay away from dark wallpapers, right? On the other hand, the space is not small at 15x15’ with vaulted ceilings and there is additional daylight on the other side of the room, so I probably shouldn’t worry about making it look cramped or busy? But would anything but a subtle-ish design that incorporates bright white (Curves Ahead by York) look good there? Any suggestions at what I should be looking for?

Thanks!

Forced to redecorate the bedroom. Halp!

So. This renovation just keeps getting worse. Now the bedroom is involved. Help me brainstorm new flooring, wall color, and keep me sane. Metafilter has helped me choose cute summer shoes, now I'm trusting you guys to help me make a bedroom we'll love for the next 3-5 years.

We're probably using Behr color 510E-2 (rhythmic blue) for the bathroom walls and master closet walls, the vanity is being built, the tiles are chosen - 2" white octagons with grey squares. White subway tile in the shower.

We had to fire the general contractor/mold remediator when he explained three different bogus reasons he would not get a permit. His crew did a terrible job with the demolition, potentially contaminating the entire house.

For extra fun, it turns out we also have a leak in the bedroom sliding glass door - or somewhere - that has let a bunch of water into the bedroom over what looks like years. Half the perimeter of the carpet has molded. The original mold contractor did not notice this, but might have with air testing.

Aside from the air quality tests which I had started this morning, what else do I need to know?

TL;DR:

I need to choose 183 sq ft of something for the floor - prefer wood or cork or...something? Window treatment for a sliding glass door (and hell, if the door is bad enough, maybe a door), paint for the walls, and a light fixture/ceiling fan, as well as bedroom, bathroom and water closet doors.

I'm no longer feeling overwhelmed by lighting or water fixtures. I've come to terms with the fact that I have to hunt down my own counter slab. I no longer care that my designer didn't come up with a single solution for what to do with wet towels.

Please don't tell me to look at apartmenttherapy, please do link to specific products or colors, and please tell me your "everything turned out ok" home renovation nightmare stories. Even if it happened in the kitchen.

Pretty please, make me laugh so that I don't cry.

Sorry, love, there is no color that would match that floor.

What color should I paint a bedroom with a swirly brown-black-reddish stained concrete floor? I will be staying with my parents in Houston, TX for five months. They just got a great deal on a townhome, and in order to give me more privacy, suggested that I can have the first-floor bedroom if I like it. I love it!

Since the house was a forclosure, dad will be painting all rooms before any furniture is moved into the house. Unfortunately, I won't be in Texas when he does that. He's keeping the original paint colors everywhere in the house since he likes them and doesn't want to bother with more than one coat. However, I am somewhat sick of beige and white walls, so I get to pick the colors I like for my room.

Normally, I'd go with a pale pastel blue or sage green, but the first floor of the house has brownish stained concrete floors, and I am not sure what would look good with them.

I love brown, and I love the combination of brown/light baby blue, but the floors look somewhat more reddish under artificial light than in the pictures and I can't tell whether that would look good or bad. The sheets and pillows on my bed (pretty much the only furniture for the time being) are baby blue with a brown and blue duvet cover (none of those crazy pillows), and the doors and window frames will stay white unless I am very persuasive as to why they shouldn't. Also, chances are dad won't be happy if I ask him to paint every wall a different color.

The room is small and will be used pretty much only for sleeping. My mom and I have been eyeing rugs for it, but won't be spending this much money any time soon. I love, love, love this rug and the color scheme: the floor is not too far off from the reddish flowers, and the blue matches my sheets, by the way. I guess I'll live with beige walls if I it's the best choice, but would rather not.

Please, people with better taste than mine, tell me what would look good in my shiny, new bedroom?

Please help me paint my bedroom!

I just moved into room in a beautiful house, but cannot for the life of me decide what color to choose. I'm looking for a natural, earthy tone - something with a sensual vibe like dark brown.

The difficult part is that there is a very high ceiling, only 1 window, and 4 super huge walls. Any color I paint the walls will dominate the room. Even with furniture (bed, desk, etc...) in the room, there is still a lot of empty wall space because of the ceiling height.

The dimensions are 12ft x 15ft with 12ft high ceilings. The 1 window doesn't allow too much light in. There are 2 recessed ceiling lights, but I plan on using tinted brown lamps. The high ceilings look great but are so hard to work with. With only 1 window, there's no break in the walls. Any color I paint turns the wall into one giant square of green, red, brown, etc...

I'm thinking maybe I should only paint 1 wall or use a 2-tone scheme so that one color doesn't dominate the rooms. Maybe a dark brown behind the main wall touching my headboard, and the side walls a tan/beige.

Painting this room has been incredibly stressful as 2 colors i've tried turned out horribly. One made me feel like i was in a jungle and the other resembled the inside of Jamba Juice.

If you can suggest a name of the paint brand and color, I will be forever grateful.

Unbasement my basement

Help me make my new basement room feel like a non-basement room. Specifically, paint, lighting, and other decorating ideas. So I'm moving into a new place and it's slightly underground. It has reasonably-sized windows but they start halfway up the wall. Some light gets in but not as much as a normal above-ground. The whole place looks kind of bleh because it has dark beige carpets and light beige walls. Also the overhead light in my room is hospital-bright so it feels very artificial. I want to make it look brighter, funkier, more lively. It's not really that bad right now but I think it could be a lot better. (I've never done any decorating before.)

I can repaint the walls - they are due for a new coat anyway, so the landlord will pay - though I will probably have to paint them back when I move out, probably in two years, so I should avoid colors that will take four coats to apply and four to paint over. I saw this thread which is great - any further suggestions for colors?

Lighting-wise, a friend is going to sell me a few lamps. I thought maybe if I used the lamps instead of the overhead light, or maybe in combination with the overhead light using a lower-wattage bulb. then it might feel more warmer and more welcoming. Any thoughts?

Other ideas - plants. I think having a bunch of plants would help. Though I don't know if they'll get enough sunlight? those near the window will be fine but elsewhere I don't know. Would houseplants thrive on artifical light? I've never owned any before!

Thanks
