American traveller just landed in Dublin. Airline seat caused back pain. Traveller needs ibuprofen or Advil. How do we find this? It's Sunday afternoon. All we can find is panadol. Is there a way to get ibuprofen over the counter? Or even get it delivered?

How do I cope emotionally with severe lower back pain?
I have seen a doctor, and they said that I am doing all the right things, but it will be between 2 to 10 weeks before it stops.
In the meantime,
everything really, really hurts. Cuddling my partner. Standing. Walking. Grocery shopping. Driving. Going to the laundromat. Making the bed....

How do astronauts and other trained professionals deal with itches while in pressurized suits for long durations of time? Does NASA make astronauts undergo "tickle conditioning" to reduce the stress caused by having an itch one can't scratch, or, likewise, the military with fighter pilots? Do the subjects just get used to the feeling, so that the itch deadens? Are antihistamines or similar drugs administered pre-flight? Has weightlessness been found to affect these and related parts of the nervous system that manage sensations of pain, discomfort, heat, cold, etc.?

I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia by a pain doc and then a rheumatologist as a second opinion. The kicker is that I do not think that I have fibro. I have visited all sorts of message boards and my symptoms do not seem to match up with the experiences of others w/ fibro. My rheumatologist is open to other diagnoses and hasn't pigeon holed me yet but cannot suggest another possibility.

My father, in his late 60s, is a prostate cancer and arthritis patient and is currently in a lot of pain to the point where he doubles over groaning. His oncologist and general practitioner have prescribed Oxycodone, which he takes one-two at a time, but sometimes even that doesn't help and other times it makes him sick. The MDs aren't sure whether the cancer or arthritis are to blame at the moment. He'll go back on chemo on Monday and get a full set of scans in September. Meanwhile, does anyone have recommendations for pain relief of the mainstream or alternative variety? He has already tried acupuncture without great success. His lives in NYC. Thank you.

How do I deal with the fear of a painful medical test that I'm having in two weeks? The pain will be intense but short in duration, under 5 minutes. It's a simple procedure, done in the doctor's office, and afterwards I'll be able to do my normal activities and probably won't have any lingering sensations or discomfort. And yet, I'm having trouble summoning up the courage to go through with this, to the point where I'm becoming paralyzed with the fear. I would appreciate suggestions or anecdotes about how you overcame medical fear to do something you knew you had to do.

My 58 year old dad has been having a squeezing pain in his heart. It has happened a few times, and then just goes away. He went to the emergency room, got a lot of tests done including the stress test, and they determined that his heart is healthy. He has healthy blood pressure and has a manual labor job, and so gets a lot of exercise. The doctor said it might be stress. Does anyone have experience with this? My dad is ready to just try to relieve his stress, but I am worried that it could be something else that the doctor may not have picked up on. Any solutions, including alternative medicine? Thank you!

Hey everybody, I asked about my leg pain/sciatica and got a lot of helpful answers last time. This is a followup on the same topic. I recently got an MRI back that says I have "There is a large extradural mass extending posterior to the L4-5 or L5-S1 intervertebral discs most likely L5-S1. This likely reflects an extruded disc fragment from a disc herniation. There is extensive effacement of the right S-1 nerve root. This extends up to the level of the L4-5 disc. Diffuse central disc bulging is present at L3-4. No compression fractures or other bony abnormalities are identified." My chiropractor said that I have the next to worse kind of herniated disc and that it is "leaking" and putting pressure on the nerve. He was anti-surgery last time, but after seeing the MRI said that is pretty much my only treatment option at this point for relief. I am having horrible leg pain and am on pain killers pretty consistently. I am mildly freaked out about surgery, but I need to get back on track with my life. Please help me get a better understanding if you have any experience. Thank you!
