I'm experiencing abdominal pain, and would like a non-medical sounding board for how serious it sounds, and whether it's hospital worthy (given my almost non-existent lack of health insurance). You are not my doctor, etc., etc., but I'd like some non-medical advice about whether what I'm experiencing is something serious, or something that I can just push through. I think I have a low pain tolerance threshold, and I'm not good at gauging relative pain strength while in pain, so I'd like some perspective. I don't know which details are important, so I'm including them all.

Can I become allergic to (almost) all fruits over night? If so, what can I eat/drink as substitutes?

YANMD. My mother and I share a strange gastro-intenstinal issue for which I need to find an answer. If we don't eat regularly, I get what can best be described as gas. It doesn't feel like heartburn but more of a general pain in the tummy with the need to burp. It is very uncomfortable to the point that I can't do much of anything but sit and ride it out. I have always been told by my West Indian mother that there is nothing that can be done except eat small meals regularly or drink tea. I find it hard to believe that this is the means by which I have to treat this problem.

TMI Medical Filter: Previously, I had sometimes crippling stomach pain. That went away. Now I'm, uh, bleeding. Rectally. Um. Yeah. But my HMO doesn't seem to care all that much. MetaFilter is not my doctor, but I can't go to my doctor to ask... should I skip my HMO and go to the hospital?

My friend can't figure out the cause of her digestive issues, it's not celiac, not lactose intolerance, no allergy to caffeine - anyone experience something similar and can offer some suggestions? More details below.

Abdominal Pain Filter: My girlfriend woke up last night with an excruiating stabbing pain throughout her lower abdomen. Thankfully, that's gone, but there is still a tender spot about 1 inch up from her belly button, and two inches to the right. I think it's too far up to be the appendix. What could it be?

Should I go get the CT scan or not? I've had a stomachache for 10 days and my doctor thinks it might be my appendix; the blood tests are all negative; should I still go through with this?
