a spikely joint

I've been having knee pain recently resulting from physical activity. Will it get better with time, or do I have to choose between accepting it and taking a long break? [more inside]

What's a good knee wrap for warmth and support? (patella tendon)

Asking for a friend: What's a good knee wrap for warmth and support? I've been treated for patella tendonosis. I'm a middle-aged man in Seattle. It doesn't get very cold here, but even below 50 degrees, my knee starts to ache. Looking for a way to keep the knee joint nice and warm, and extra support for the tendon. Thinking of buying this knee wrap. Anyone have first hand (first knee?) experience? You are not my doctor. You are not my physical therapist. My dog will be happier if I can take her for longer walks.

Is breastfeeding supposed to hurt?

Exclusively breastfeeding my 4-month-old daughter and my joints have been hurting every day since a few weeks after her birth--particularly my hands, wrists, and ankles. My hands and wrists are also noticeably bigger. Everything hurts worse in the morning. I know prolactin is a pro-inflammatory so maybe that's why, and maybe I can expect things to get better when I wean her? I have a history of other autoimmune diseases so I am worried about RA. I have an appt with a rheumatologist but couldn't get in for several weeks so, in the meantime, is this something others have experienced? In other words, so that I can sleep at night without worry, did others have achy joints that went away after weaning? I'm hoping this can be chalked up to the prolactin and not RA that has been triggered...

my thumb is hurting and the doc said nothing was wrong. what do I do?

my right thumb has been hurting on and off for years. it's at the basilar joint. I have gotten xrays and I was checked for rheumatism (which has occurred in my family) but was cleared. eventually, the doc gave up, stating some things just couldn't be explained. this is not good enough for me. What kind of doctor do I need to see for my knee/hip pain?

I am 28 and female. Overweight, but no other health problems. I've had deep, aching knee and hip pain since around 2003. Most of the time since then, I have been un- or under-insured. I'd like to finally get this figured out and treated, but not sure what kind of specialist I should go to. My latest trip to a primary-care doctor was useless. [more inside]

Eww-lbow

So... over the course of the day my elbow has gone weird looking - it's red and swollen and sort of squooshy feeling. The skin feels warm to the touch and it is tender. Doctor Google tells me it's probably Bursitis. So... I should probably go get it checked out. But is it a rush to the docs tonight thing or a wait to tomorrow thing?

Do the benefits of a cortisone injection outweigh the risks?

I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis a year ago. I am on Enbrel and it has helped a great deal with the pain I experienced in my arms and joints but I am still having really bad pain upon walking or standing in my low back, sacral joint areas...I swim and do a variety of stretches but it is not allowing me the recovery I long for. I use to walk a few miles everyday, hike on the weekends and I haven't been able to do that in a couple of years. I miss it! I have been reading up on Epidural Cortisone injections and I am curious about personal results people have had. I am interested in the good as well as the bad stories, so I can decide, after meeting with my Doctors, if I want to go through with it. In other words if the benefits outweigh the risks.
