Friends, Romans, Healthy People, lend me your experience!

I just started running, and just started using a Total Gym for upper body workouts. Should running cause pain in the medial collateral ligament in your knees? What about in the tibalias anterior? (Not shin splint pain - I know that one well. This is more like a high ankle sprain.) Should lat pulldowns cause pain and stiffness in the side of your neck going down into your shoulder and trapezius? Or crunches cause low back pain? [more inside]

dating with chronic pain

I have chronic crippling body pain that can strike at any time. I am doing all the things I can to learn to live with it and ease it when it strikes but I have a hard time being with people sometimes because I get snappy when I feel like they don't understand how much energy it takes. Now I have a new girlfriend and it is going to cause problems. Have you lived with pain and relationships? [more inside]

Pain - it got good to me?

I've been in chronic pain--rarely acute, but constant, flitting about different parts of my body--for years: diagnosis: early Fibro. In early spring, I started getting really bad headaches from clenching my teeth. Not the first time I've had the problem, but never before this intense and for this long. Then about a month ago, I developed lower-back/sciatic pain--again, I've had it before, but never so badly or for so long. The two things didn't overlap much, but they sort of drowned out my regular aches and pains. Now my back problem is clearing up, and I find myself in a panic about not being in pain anymore [more inside]

Mind or body? What's up with these symptoms?

I got what I wanted but the doctor is a quack and I don't trust him. Help?

The doctor I just saw is a quack. I knew he would be, but I set up an appointment anyway. I've been dealing with fatigue and chronic pain, and regular doctors haven't had an answer. So I set up an appointment with a doctor that practices "functional medicine" as a last ditch effort. How do I reconcile what this doctor told me with what I know about real medicine and the load of bullshit I was just fed? [more inside]

Trigeminal neuralgia treatment without health insurance

Trigeminal neuralgia. I recently found out it's the cause of the random, stabbing shocks in my face and I'm looking for experiences and advice, especially with regards to treatment. What helped? How did you deal? Did it go away on its own? I have no insurance, so while I'd like recommendations on ALL treatment forms ones that don't cost as much are especially welcome. [more inside]

Assistive Animation Technology for Creative 17 Year-Old with Chronic Pain

I am working with a 17 year-old boy who has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. He loves doing animation on the computer, and he has been using Windows Movie Maker. In recent months, he has been in a chronic flare and is unable to use his hands. He is also very depressed, and I believe that being able to do something he loves may help his current mental state. Does anyone know of any animation software that has adaptations for use with voice commands? (I know about Dragon Dictate for Word Processing, but can it be used with other types of software?) Bonus points if you can tell me about any benevolent companies or agencies that offer this kind of software/hardware at a discounted or pro bono rates. This boy is not from a wealthy family and he has only the most basic health coverage.
