I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis a year ago. I am on Enbrel and it has helped a great deal with the pain I experienced in my arms and joints but I am still having really bad pain upon walking or standing in my low back, sacral joint areas...I swim and do a variety of stretches but it is not allowing me the recovery I long for. I use to walk a few miles everyday, hike on the weekends and I haven't been able to do that in a couple of years. I miss it! I have been reading up on Epidural Cortisone injections and I am curious about personal results people have had. I am interested in the good as well as the bad stories, so I can decide, after meeting with my Doctors, if I want to go through with it. In other words if the benefits outweigh the risks.

I've had a pained knee for many years. A combination of flat feet and running in bad sneakers destroyed a lot of the cartilage, and now it hurts to run, kneel, etc. Cold weather brings the pain, especially. I've been through various types of physical therapy and tried various running books (ChiRunning) and shoes (from Grid Stabils to FiveFingers), but it never makes the pain go away completely. Recently, a well intentioned relative brought me Joint Relief Formula which purports to help your joints with Omega 3 and "Iceland Collagen GHA". I can't find any unbiased reviews on the web, nor any explanations why Omega 3 or the Collagen would help in my case. Has anyone used this stuff? Or can you link to medical studies showing their efficacy (or lack thereof)? I have access to most medical journals.

Help me to achieve a pain-free workstation. I seem to be an ergonomic freak. After my job's ergo chief and her boss have measured me, changed my chair, and lowered my desk, I still have such neck and shoulder pain after an hour at the desk that my productivity is severely compromised. For hours after, I'm in pain. [more inside]

I cut the lower half of my palm with a piece of shattered glass this afternoon. The cut was about 1/4" long, fairly deep, and about half an inch under the base of my pinky. I applied pressure, washed the wound with plenty of soap and water, and applied peroxide before putting on a band-aid. The bleeding has stopped and the edges of the cut seem comfortably closed up, but I experience a dull pain when I bend my pinky finger. The rest of my fingers feel fine, but I can't fully bend my pinky due to the pain. I've buddy-taped it for now, but I'm curious as to whether this is just my body's response to the pain from the cut or whether I might have damaged a nerve.

MattressHackingFilter: I recently upgraded from a fairly firm queen sized mattress to a king-sized soft pillow-top (Simmons Beautyrest). While laying down feels noticeably different (and pretty damn comfy), I do wake up with some back pain, most notable a tightness in my upper back and in the shoulders towards the neck. Are there any quick-and-cheap solutions (besides returning it) that can alleviate the pain? Is this just my body adjusting or am I S.O.L.?

For the past few months, I've been experiencing a lot of back pain during sleep and when I wake up. I've tried many solutions - sleeping on top of a bunch of blankets (to make my firm mattress softer), sleeping with a pillow between my legs (helps a little but not much, it seems), putting a towel under my hips, sleeping on my back, sleeping on my stomach, sleeping on my side. In a nutshell, I'm losing it and really could use some help. Anyone with a super-sensitive back who has found a comfortable way to sleep??? I have scoliosis, so that's one thing to keep in mind. Also, if one of the strategies I mentioned above worked for you, pleae don't hesitate to mention it - maybe you tried it in a different way than I did! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

InsectBiteFilter. Help! Last Sunday in Phoenix, Arizona I was chilling outside and then some insect stung/bit/injected my neck. It was not a bee/wasp/spider/ant. It was a tannish brown color and I think it had transparent green wings but I can't recall for sure. It was about half an inch long. I tried to just forget about it but each day the sting gets more painful. I just hope there's no brood in my neck. Anyone know what kind of critter this could be? And, yes, I know I should go to the doctor but I wanted some hive-mind reassurance that I'll be fine. Thank you so much! Dang bugs.

I'm 21 and for the last 10 months or so I've been having knee pain above both kneecaps. The pain isn't confined to a point but instead spread over the area above my knee caps, and occurs whenever I bend the knee with weight on it. I've been to a surgeon who wants to do an arthroscopy but he doesn't know what the problem is and hence doesn't know if it will do any good. Has anyone had a similar kind of pain and if so how did you solve it? And could it be plica syndrome even though the pain is above the knee and in both knees? [more inside]

I am getting soreness/discomfort in a strange place while doing squats: on the outside of my right leg only, 4-6 inches above my ankle. I'm returning to weightlifting after a year off with unrelated shoulder injury, and this happens with very little additional weight beyond just the bar. Should I be stretching, starting with less weight, or something else?
