ARGH! MOVING! I have less than 2 months to vacate my apartment, and find a new place in Los Angeles. I've moved about a dozen times over the years, but THIS time I don't even know where to begin, because all the stuff I took for granted before requires physical fitness that I no longer have, and I'm running out of time. Could use some advice! [more inside]
We have a move scheduled soon with a company we've used before and are happy with. The SO has about 6-8 medium boxes worth of valuables and delicates she would like professionally packed before the move; the company we have can do this the same day but has indicated this would result in delays and does not recommend it, and they are unable to send someone the day before. Is there anyone that will help us with just the packing part? [more inside]
I took a job that means we are moving everyone from north of Boston to north of Philly. This means packing up one house to sell and then moving everything to a new one. We have started working on the selling and buying aspects, what we don't have any clue about is how best to do the packing and moving. Suggestions please? [more inside]
Movers are coming on Thursday to take almost all our stuff from our 1BR apartment to storage. Most things that can be easily boxed have been. Now I'm dealing with the home stretch of packing: the weirdly shaped stuff, the stuff I'd rather sell than store but that no one seems to want, and the hard decisions like what clothes do I pack for the next three months while the rest sits in storage. How do I accomplish this in three days? [more inside]

I'm about to move! Yay! My move coincides with two weeks off! Yay! Given that I have all this time, this move is going to kind of trickle from one house to the next, moving stuff as I have it packed, with one big day in the middle where I officially change residences. So, what goes in the first box that I take over to the new place, and what goes in the last box to leave my current place? [more inside]

We are starting the first wave of packing to move - I call this wave "cleaning to pack", involving mostly going through closets, cabinets, drawers etc and organizing/tossing so that we don't give up and just start upending drawers into boxes. [more inside]
I have some boxes and some furniture. They need to fit in the back of a van. Is there somewhere on the internet where I can tell it the sizes of my things, and the size of the space they need to fit into, and it tells me how to most efficiently stack my things? [more inside]

We are making a local move (less than a mile) to a new house. When my husband and I moved into our current 4-bedroom house 14 years ago, it was the two of us coming from a small two-bedroom apartment with not much stuff - I packed it all, had movers, and it was done in a day. This is not that move. Please share your tips and tricks for moving a big, complicated household! [more inside]
I'm helping someone move from Queens, NYC to Bolivia, and I'd appreciate recommendations on reliable packers/movers that have international moving experience. This would be a small apartment's worth of clothing, kitchen items, TVs, etc, but no furniture. The largest item would be an upright piano that, ideally, could be packed by the same company but, otherwise would be separately crated and shipped with the household effects. In the event that no great int'l movers come to mind, recommendations for a great packer and a great international freight forwarding company would be appreciated.
The fam and I are moving in two weeks, and will have two weeks of living in a small rental between closings. Because of this delay, we are going to use PODs for the move, but aren't sure what size we need, and hoping someone can help. [more inside]
I'm trying to plan our move from Oahu back to Los Angeles. We have too much for airline baggage, but too little for a shipping container. We're selling all the furniture and big items, and planning to buy used replacements when we arrive. We're paring down our belongings as much as we can bear, but it's still not going to fit in airline baggage. I'm talking medium-value, medium-sized things like baking pans, shoes, small kitchen appliances, and books. What's the cheapest way to ship all this little stuff? [more inside]

I'm looking for moving/shipping companies to send a couple of boxes of books & clothes from Australia to the USA (as I'm relocating). While requesting quotes, one company strongly suggested that I hire them to pack my things for me as apparently US Customs get suspicious if the boxes were packed by the individual mover (me, in this case) rather than by a professional. I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else and the US Customs website hasn't addressed this. What's going on? [more inside]
Moving from Brooklyn, NY to San Diego, CA. Have about 10-15 large/heavy boxes to ship to CA. A few boxes are primarily books and DVDs. The others are clothes and shoes. Nothing super fragile. I don't have a car. What is the best/easiest/most affordable way to do this? Halp!
I'm packing for a move from a dry climate ~7,000 feet above sea level to a wet one ~300 feet above sea level. What precautions should I take to ensure all my stuff survives the trip? Anything else I should be mindful of for adjusting to the new environment?
I'm moving in about ten days, I'm disabled, and my mother (who is in her mid-sixties) is here helping me pack. I've got four of five hundred books, mostly paperbacks and mostly genre fiction, about which I'm finally being sensible and eliminating. The problem we're having is that it's almost as much trouble to get rid of these as it would have been to pack them. [more inside]
