I just rebuilt a computer with XP Pro for a family member who got hit by multitudes of spyware. She uses Outlook Express but ever since the rebuild, the default email program keeps changing from Express to something else. Initially it was Outlook, as Office is installed, but since they don't use Outlook I uninstalled it and alas, the default email program switched to MSN Explorer or some such. Is there a way I can make sure Outlook Express remains the default program?

My blackberry 7250 is not saving the contents of notes and tasks since upgrade to Outlook 2007. The only thing being saved is the title. In Outlook, everything looks fine, but once I upload the information to my blackberry, the message disappears. I have not been able to find very much documentation on this subject, and I was hoping someone here might have a suggestion. Of course, if all else fails I could downgrade again.
Second question:
Are there any opensource projects like Outlook that download to Blackberry? (This is what I would really like :) stupid Outlook, I hate you)

I just changed universities and my new IT Department's instructions to enable me to access my new e-mail address (via Outlook 2003) caused me to delete old my old e-mail. Their instructions, which I blindly followed, instructed me to delete the "outlook" profile in Control Panel --> Mail. I did so, and installed their Microsoft Exchange e-mail. I assumed it would just add to my other POP e-mail accounds that were already configured and working in Outlook. I assumed wrong. So now I have none of my old e-mail, or my old contacts anymore. Is there anyway to get this invaluable stuff back? [more inside]

I have a machine running Outlook 97. Somehow, the SMTP server has become changed to 'net' (that's all it says - it should be nameofdomain.com). I am unable to change this back - every time I try, the next time Outlook goes to send and receive, it attempts to locate 'net' again. Any idea what's going on here? Google is little help on such generic keywords and the MS knowledge base doesn't seem able to help. Spyware check reveals nothing. XP Home.

Joel just blogged about Microsoft's recent acquisition of Lookout (a search plug-in for Outlook) and in the comments it turns out that Lookout used a .NET port of the Lucene open-source engine. So, inevitably the question arises; is there any nice front-end to the same engine that can search anything on your PC? (Lookout actually can, but it is unmaintained now). This comes close, but not quite...

Now that M$ has ended further development of Outlook Express, I get the feeling I should line up an alternative. Now happens to be a good time for me to do this. Can anyone recommend a Windows mail client that's free & fast with filters/rules, spell check, and a halfway decent mail import/export? I'm actually already running Linux and MacOS on several machines already, so spare me those tips, thank you ;)
