I just acquired a couple of light-duty (i.e. inappropriate for river salmon) fishing rods, I've received a primer in selecting tackle and setting everything up, I know my knots, I've got my permits and a Discover Pass, and my cooler is ready for some fresh catch. Where, within a 40 minutes' drive of Seattle, can I go catch delicious fish that I can cook and eat? Any recommendations for location-specific books or other resources geared toward an absolute beginner who is more enthusiastic about the food than the sport?

What are some do's and don'ts to boating, fishing, and (possibly) swimming while 20-40 miles from land? I'm not an idiot adrenaline junkie or a nervous Nancy or ignorant of any fishing experience but I would always rather do things 'right' than learn the hard way, even if 'right' is subjective.

I want to plan a trip for my bf's birthday. I live in TEXAS and want to find a cool cabin that sleeps at least 6 people with access to fishing. I would prefer a secluded area where he and his standoutish tattooed buddies can be noisy and not have to deal with neighbors or uptight rednecks..
