I have an existential OSX file problem - trying to delete a file that can't be found... After moving a slew of .mv4 files of moves that I've shifted from MBA hard drive to external drive I noted that my laptop memory did not reflect deletion.

Long story short, I have a Macbook Air that is completely formatted. I'm trying to install Lion from a USB drive and I'm getting an error that my Apple ID is not associated with a copy of Lion. I'd like to buy Lion with my Apple ID, but apparently I need to get to the AppStore to do this. I do not have access to another Mac, but I have the following: Windows with iTunes, an iPhone, an iPad. Is there anyway I can buy OS X Lion on these devices so I can continue my installation?

How do I get my iMac to wake on demand when it's asleep and asked to do so?
These instructions from Apple are pretty straightforward on how to set it up for Bonjour, but I can't get it to work when it receives a request from Apple TV to wake up. It's an iMac running Lion with a Time Capsule set up as the Base Station. The iMac supports Wake on Demand over Wi-Fi and ethernet (it's connected over Wi-Fi). Time Capsule and Lion have the latest updates. I've found recommendations on Google but nothing has worked. Any troubleshooting pointers? (Bonus question: how can I get it to wake up from outside my network?) Thanks.

I have a late 2010 Macbook Pro (MacbookPro6,3) running Lion (10.7.3) and an iMac of indeterminate vintage (iMac11,3) running Snow Leopard (10.6.8). I have a Thunderbolt cable. Neither mac supports Thunderbolt; both have MiniDisplayPort connectors. I want to run the iMac in Target Display Mode as a second display for the MacBook Pro. Can I make this happen?

Staff member's MacBook (four years old or so, probably running osx 10.4 to 10.6, I'm not sure on this) has a dead screen. I have a back-up machine for them, and want to migrate them to the new machine... The old computer boots,
I can JUST barely see the screen enough to log in, but after that, can't see enough to do anything. I can attach an external monitor (I've tried two different monitors, the result is the same), it boots to the initial starry background, and although I can log onto the computer as noted above, the external monitor never changes from that background. No windows, no menu bar, no dock, just that background and the cursor arrow.

At work, there is a MacPro that I routinely use remotely via SSH, but have only sporadic physical access to. Someone else upgraded it to Lion (from Snow Leopard), and since then, I am unable to use the terminal locally or to log into it via SSH - in either case, the process immediately terminates / disconnects. Other user accounts on the same machine are not affected. What could be going on?

In OS X, I used Automator to create a Folder Action to synch, with Transmit, a local folder and a remote folder. It's activated when I drop a file in the local folder.
I want it to be activated when I edit and save a file that is already in the local folder. That is, I want the Folder Action to watch for changes in the modification date/time of files and trigger the synch when a file's modification date or time changes.

I'm looking for a forum where I can ask questions about networking, security, coding, operating systems, web design, etc. There are
many of these out there, but I'd like to find a
single community which covers all these topics more or less equally (so it isn't a Linux forum with a small section on BSD, or a coding forum with a small section on networking). I'd like it to be the sort of forum where users stay around for several years as they learn and contribute at different levels, with high literacy and education-to-spam levels. Could I have your recommendations please?

I'm writing a paper that involves reading forty articles by about thirty different historians. Their biographical details are relevant. I'd like to be able to enter information about these articles and their authors into a database (or something similar) and then be able to sort by the various categories, link entries together, easily have lists of all of the people or articles who fit a given criterium, et cetera. What should I use? Free or cheap, OSX-compatible, relatively low learning curve.
