I cannot enter text with the Safari browser, in the main window (like to login into any site or post a comment here) with the keyboard, though I can enter text in the URL and search bars. Also, I can cut and paste text within a field, just not type it in, the cursor does blink and highlighting text to cut works as normal. Strange! [more inside]

I'm trying to find a (stable) OSX web browser that...
A) allows you to select text and right-click to search for that text in Google,
AND
B) displays bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar as favicons (not just plain text buttons). [more inside]

Something for (the latest version of) Safari that allows me to see which DIV I'm in by mousing over a section of the screen? Any suggestions besides webdevadditions (which doesn't work for me and the developer is unresponsive).

I'm having a strange problem with Safari and Google: if I run a google search and command-click on a result (to open it in a new tab) about 90% of the time it will open in the main tab, thus only allowing me to click through to one result at a time. This makes me very unhappy, as I loved using tabs to quickly sort through search results. I haven't had any problems using command-click on other sites. [more inside]

Which Mac OS X Files let Safari securely connect to sites?
I'd accidentally lost some of my System (my fault) and had to reinstall, etc. to get it back. Looks like everything is working... EXCEPT when I try to connect to https:// sites. gmail, hotmail, whatever.
I have other Macs here, so if anyone knows what frameworks or whatever likely make that work, I can easily copy them over and correct the permissions. But WHICH files? (minimally more inside)

I'm in a bit of a pickle - the developers of a website I work on have used HTML Components (.htc) to drive the dynamic portion of the site. User testing revealed that it's working on Windows with IE 5.5 and above, but it's not working on any of the Macs we're used, which are running OS 9 and OS X, and have IE 5, Netscape and Safari browsers.
Short of re-coding the entire user interface, does anyone know of a workaround for our friends on Macs?

Apple/Safari question: I am at wits end with a strange problem. Every time I download certain files from my webserver (gzip'd tar'd gpg'd backup files), safari renames them. The files are named in the following format: filename.tar.gz.gpg. Safari renames them on the fly to filename.tar.gz.gz, which it then tries to unzip to predictable results since they haven't been unencrypted yet. Each file needs to be renamed after being d/loaded, which is kind of annoying. I turn to you Ask-metafilter; any ideas?
