I'm running OS X Leopard on my beloved shiny Macbook and there's one thing that I find irritating. I love using F9, F10, F11 etc to bring up Exposé, Dashboard and the Desktop, but every now and again they suddenly stop functioning. It's normally when the computer's been on for a few days - I hit the keys and nothing happens. So I check in Keyboard Shortcuts of the System Prefs, and all the boxes in the "Dock, Exposé and Dashboard" are magically unticked. I can tick them again, and everything's fine and dandy for a few days. Alternatively, I can reboot and it's back to how it should be. (For a while...) Why is this happening, and how can I stop it? Every time I need to enter an address in a webpage while using my Mac, I can tab from field to field, but the state field (which is often a drop down menu) gets skipped over, and I have to leave the keyboard to select my state with the mouse from the drop down menu. I hate that. Is threre an extension, either for Firefox (my browser of choice) or OS X in general, that will allow me to tab to a drop down menu, and select from its choices via the keyboard, as I can in Windows?

How do I swap the control and command keys on a mac? Since I use a PC from the very same keyboard, I'm constantly flubbing up my copy and pastes between OSes. I'd like to just stick with one, and control-c feels more natural. I've tried the Keyboard system preferences pane. I've changed the Modifier Keys settings to swap them, but it doesn't do anything. Do I need to run an app to swap these keystrokes?

I'm already to used to my new Mac's keyboard. Unfortunately, I have to use XP at work. Is there a (preferably free) keyboard remapping program for XP? The only one I've found is a six buck download via PCmag.com.

I picked up a very cheap Microsoft Office Keyboard today. It works great on my Windows 2000 machine with the software provided, but the Mac software included on the CD is for OS9, and I want to run it with my KVM switch into my G4 iBook (OSX.4). [more inside]
