So comrades, come rally,/ And the last fight let us face: in honor of May Day, can any of you prisoners of starvation tell me where can I find an audio recording of Orwell's "Beasts of England"?

Help me find a quotation. I have a vague memory of a quote from a respected literary figure (perhaps Orwell) which states that the name given to a piece of legislation will always denote the opposite of the purpose of the legislation. In effect, the names of our laws are propaganda. The USA PATRIOT Act springs immediately to mind. Are you familiar with this alleged quote? Who said it and what did they say? Or did my drug-addled brain make the whole thing up?

I'm trying to find an old poem or essay that I read many, many moons ago. I am not sure I even have the specifics correct. It basically dealt with having to reject a dinner party invitation because the author couldn't stand to be with bores and the people there. For some reason I think it was by Wilde, Orwell or Larkin. If anyone can help me find it, I will be much appreciative. Thanks.

A couple of times recently I have heard a quotation that goes something like "whenever a man offers me a flyer in the street I always take one, because when he's given them all out he can go home." Once I heard it attributed to George Orwell, and the other time to Somerset Maugham. I've googled to the best of my ability and can't find the quote or the speaker. Any ideas?

I'm in the process of teaching 1984 by George Orwell and, as we near the end of Book Three and are shown the horrors of Room 101, the question always arises: why do we use the number 101 to designate an introduction to a subject? What is the origin?
