I have seen a podiatrist and have been diagnosed with hallux limitus. I wore an aircast for about 6 weeks starting in December, and felt improvement upon my return visit, but my doctor warned that it was likely my original pain would return and it has. I understand it will get worse with age. The doctor recommended custom orthotics, and told me to schedule a follow-up to get the mold made if I decided to pursue that course. Before I do, I want to understand a little more about what this means and how it will help.

I'm looking for a good ski boot fitter no more than three hours away from northern Westchester County, NY. Do you know of any? How about any other tips concerning boot fitting?

I own, and love,
Naturalizer Maude flats for working as a bank teller, where I stand at least half the day and constantly hop off and on my stool. When they're new, the comfort insole is perfect for my feet. However, after a year of use, I've squashed any cushioning they have and they're
killing me. What insoles will fit into a dressy ballet flat that does not have removable insoles?

Do I need to be wearing a supportive insole in my ballet flats? Are flat shoes destructive for your feet?

I got prescription orthotics made. They are "dress orthotics" (?) - i.e. they don't come all the way up under the toe, I guess to make them not so visible. But I don't understand how I'm supposed to wear them. If I take the original insoles out of my shoes, then there's a hard edge under my toes; and the ends of my toes are resting on the rough insole-less interior surface of the shoe. If I put the orthotic in and put the original insole over it, there isn't room in the shoe for my foot.

I have to wear orthotics in all shoes. I have a few pairs of shoes I love (including the all-important sandals that one can actually wear orthotics with) that started squeaking horrendously with each step not long after I got them. This never seems to happen in the store. Does anyone have a solution that actually works for making such shoes actually wearable without the embarrassing noise?

Hi everyone
Would welcome some advice / shared experiences please.
Feb/March got an 8mm orthotic in my left shoe to finally deal with uneven leg length
Orthopedic Hosp orthotic chap said I "may find it a little tiring, maybe a little discomfort", well I was in pain for a bit, mainly left calf and right knee.
Started back running and all fine but as I train for my half-marathon and step up the pace/intensity/length (don't worry - not all at the same time, am doing sensible training plan) I'm getting some twinging in my left calf.

I just received my first pair of full-length custom orthotics to help correct an SI injury I've been receiving physical therapy for. Problem is, I have no shoes that fit both my feet and the new orthotics except my sneakers. I desperately need a pair of sandals since, you know, it's summer and all. What are the best sandals for orthotics?

I have different length legs. Three weeks ago I was given an orthotic at the hospital. It is a heep raise only and 8mm high. I was told try it in all your shoes, if you get tired, take it out and have a rest.
I am used to the feel of it now but am finding it hard to exercise as much as I used to. At best it is uncomfortable, at worst painful - both in the shorter and the longer leg. I am getting fed up and frustrated. I have an appointment in 7 weeks time, I know you are not my doctor, but I'd be interested in peoples' actual experience of getting used to thse things. For as long as I can remember, I haven't been able to run for more than a minute or two without pain in my shins. I just got orthotics, and they are helping a little. Are there any running shoes that could help me with this?
