I'm on the board of an arts organization that is in a funding emergency. I'm looking for suggestions of ways to raise money for our organization in a hurry - we've lost funding we were counting on and will lose our paid staff if we can't come up with some answers in a hurry. Why anon? Going public with the degree we're in trouble may make things worse. Details: we're a convening/connecting organization that facilitates other arts organizations and individual artists/musicians/creatives activities. We do some programming and help other organizations and individuals develop their programming and artistic careers. Most organizations like us are funded by supporting organizations and or a small percentage tax but we weren't set up that way and all arts organizations in our region - shoot the whole country - are struggling. I am a marketing professional - middle management in an enormous media conglomerate. I would like to shift my work environment and infrastructure completely and work for a startup that is currently staffed only with technical experts, programmers, scientists and a small sales force. How do I pitch myself to be part of a company that doesn't have any people who do what I do yet?

I hate all forms of work (hence the anon. post) and the only way I've found to finish papers etc. is to stay up all day and night procrastinating until the last possible instance writing a bit here and there--an agonizing process--until, as the last chance deadline aproaches, something takes shape. These papers are usually final papers and usually earn me between a B+ and an -A... which is probably why I never learned how to do work in a painless and organized fashion... at any rate, I have two papers due on the same day and no chance of an extension on either one and am incapable of forcing myself to work. WHAT DO I DO?

My life is overflowing with stress. I have a wife and a 3 year old. We moved recently to a metropolitan area and we are having serious issues adjusting. I may have miscalculated the financial burden of where we are living, although we moved here to make more money, in addition my wife is starting two new jobs and is now having health problems (which she is blaming on the stress). Neither of us are the most organized people in the world and family won't be much help financially (in fact issues on my side of the family are adding to the stress). If you've been in this sort of situation, how the hell do I get out? What is the first step?
