Office work & Commuting in the UK after 12 yr gap: Hacks & Tips please!

I will shortly start a new job having worked from home for many years and I've unexpectedly been asked to start ASAP. There's some great advice on Ask about podcasts & commuting and some about 'returning to corporate hell', but I'm wondering about the practicalities of organising your life in advance for a working week, and especially wondering about what I don't know. What should I grid on my Grid-It?

I got given a Cocoon Grid-It as a present a couple of years ago. I've never used it, and it's just been sitting around useless and I just rediscovered it in a drawer. It's 19.1 cm x 26.7cm. I've come across some everyday carry websites which occasionally use these, but curious what people use them for. So far I've just stuck some headphones, a notebook and a fan into mine, but I'm sure people must have some very interesting or practical things they are using these for. Any and all suggestions welcome (picture links too in particular). Thanks!

Looking for tools or techniques to sort a photo library while on the go

I'm looking for a way to sort through my mountain of photos while I'm on the go, using an iPhone. (I shoot in RAW, so I guess it would need to involve exporting small JPGs to a Dropbox folder or an app.) I don't need to rate the photos, only flag/unflag/set as rejected (like Lightroom). The catch is that I'd like the changes I make on the go to somehow sync back to Lightroom on my computer. Is there an app for this that comes to mind, or any ideas you guys could suggest? Thanks!

What is the best way to maintain a journal over a long period?

To those who have kept a journal for more than, say, 20 years, how do you manage the physical (or electronic) output? What methods of organisation and preservation have stood the test of time for you? What should I be doing now so that in 20 years I'm not buried by paper or files?

Help me tame my embarassing mp3 mess

I have a 2002-era problem: a big library of Mp3s, many ripped from physical CDs I own, some downloaded from iTunes, others left over from when I merged music collections with my then partner. They are completely disorganised. Some albums are incomplete, most lack album art, hundreds of individual songs are just kicking around in a big folder of their own. What's the best way to tame the mess? (This question has been asked before, but I imagine best solutions have changed since 2008). [more inside]

What's the best way to organise and maintain my iTunes library?

OK, I've had it with my iTunes collection telling me it can't find things and forgetting that I have compilations and having my music in random formats. How can I reorganise the whole thing and keep it in order? Organizing my music. All automatically.

I've never really bought albums/CDs and ripped them. Atleast not all of them, I probably have like 15-20 albums, but that's it. The major part of my music collection happens to come from the Napster times. Where only tracks would be downloaded, which have little or no filename according to convention. So, I have tracks like "12-Thievery Corp-Fedime's Flight.mp3". I'd like to see this track as "Thievery Corporation - Fedime's Flight.mp3" [more inside]
