Organic and Unflavored Lip Balm

I'm looking for organic and unflavored lip balms that are available for purchase in Canada. The organic part is very important and by unflavored I mean no fruity flavors (mint flavor is fine, but nothing is preferred). I've checked other posts on lip balms, but a lot of the suggestions do not seem to be organic or the products do not ship to Canada. So far my list consists of Burt's Bees and Dr. Bronner.

Font to replace Papyrus?

Looking for a typeface for a wellness/holistic medicine practice. I know that Papyrus font is a cliche, but it's an effective visual shorthand for this kind of business. Are there other fonts that are less overused, but would still convey or fit with that vibe of green, organic, holistic, natural? [more inside]

Does organic produce taste better than conventional?

The other day I bought some yellow bell peppers at my local grocery store at a discount. When I went to cook them, I noticed they had a much stronger flavor than I expected, which was more complex and tastier to boot. When I looked at the little sticker that was on them I saw that they were labeled organic. I was cutting up some conventionally farmed green peppers at the same time, and compared to the yellow ones they barely had any flavor at all, and a very superficial flavor at that. [more inside]

Tastes of the Midwest: Grocery Edition

Best practices for eating organic, minus the bugs

I get organic produce from either a local Whole Foods or farmer's market, and some items (especially lettuces) come with a fair share of bugs. Looking for organic cotton shirts in the UK

I am looking for somewhere online (or in Edinburgh) that sells men's organic cotton long sleeve formal shirts with no pattern, ideally slim fit in a 15inch collar. They need to be shipping from the UK, or the EU in a pinch, I really don't want to order from the US. I know, this might be impossibly specific, but I figured after an hour of fruitless google it's worth asking the hive mind.

How long will this lettuce likely last?

I'm growing an organic garden with a friend this year. This morning, we harvested lots of salad greens and I took a paper bag of them home. They have not been washed, and they are in the paper bag sitting inside my fridge in the crisper drawer. How many days do you think it is likely they will last? Is there anything I can do to keep it fresh longer?

now the $6/gallon organic milk isn't good enough either.

Gross food safety/parenting issue of the day: I am freaking out about extra estrogen getting into my daughters' diet via cow's milk, as detailed in this article. My family has a propensity towards early puberty anyway and I really don't want to put my daughters at even more risk for this. My toddler drinks a LOT of milk -- she's a fussy eater and it's the only thing she always wants. I buy organic milk, but as far as I know the organic regs do not address the issue of whether the cows are kept pregnant. Do you know of any sources in the SF bay area for milk that isn't from pregnant cows? [more inside]

Holistic, beautiful, affordable retreat in nature for the Breast Cancer threatened

After scary "you may have breast cancer" tests over the last year and a winter of too much flu and allergy-induced misery, I need a long-weekend getaway to a beautiful, allergen-free or almost free retreat in our majestic country. For a very affordable price. I feel like I need physical and emotional healing and restoration on this trip. I like restorative (or Iyengar) yoga, organic food, massage, hikes/walks outside, swimming in warm water, etc. I want to be around DOWN TO EARTH, interesting (not spooky spiritual) healing people. In a lovely place. I can do a house swap or retreat swap and a barter thing - I have good massage therapy skills and license....and a charming place in a hip village in a cool-to-visit city with a lovely guest room to rent. Ideas? [more inside]

The Ideality of Organic Foods

Discussing the "New Spirit" of Capitalism, Slavoj Žižek says that we buy commodities not (just) for their utility or to evoke status, but rather to "get the experience provided by them" and to make life "pleasurable and meaningful". He then uses organic foods as an example of this: "Who really believes that half-rotten and overpriced 'organic apples' are really healthier than the non-organic variety?" [more inside]
