Is it better to buy a house or rent a place, considering the current economy? With house prices falling, maybe it's smart to buy a house. But several sites and reports are coming out now that suggest it's wiser to rent.
More personally, I've just started looking at moving out of the parents house, so this would be my first foray into being on my own. I'm looking for places in or around Brunswick OH. Help please!

Paint or vinyl siding. Help me decide. My home is in desperate need of painting. If I paint, there will be a lot of prep work required as I would want to strip most of the paint which has alligatored. I am thinking about Vinyl siding. Cape Cod rental

I am looking for a good place to go camping for a long weekend in August on Cape Cod. It could also be a rental cottage but by tradition we go camping so a campground is preferable. It's a memorial of sorts and there is a high chance of drinking and toasting till the wee hours... There are about 6 of us and we're looking for something that allows for a little privacy. I would prefer to be near Provincetown, if possible. Any suggestions?

Where should I take sewing classes in Portland, OR? I want to learn how to sew in an instructor led setting (with an eye towards clothing/costume creation and modification). I have not touched a sewing machine in 20 years, and that was only home economics. Where in Portland, OR can I take a sewing class that

1. Will teach me the basics

2. Will have people my age(ish) (25 - 35)

3. Will be relatively close to city center and Trimet accessible

Is it safe to take a pill after it's expiration date? My girlfriend is feeling like crap and I want to know if it's okay for her to take this painkiller she has. It is Oxycodone W/APAP 5/325. The expiration date was 12/3/2005, 2 years ago. Do pills really "go bad"?

Strauss Without Singing - I'm a huge fan of Strauss' orchestra compositions but dislike the opera singing. I know this will make me sound unclassy but I have to ask: is there an orchestra recording of "Four Last Songs" that is just the orchestration and no voice? I've looked and can not find. And additionally, if I wanted to do it m'self - what software/hardware exists to either cancel out voice from music, and music from voice? THANKS AS ALWAYS.

How can I fix my Windows XP "Limited or no connectivity" error when I plug my laptop into my university network? I've been plugging my laptop directly into an ethernet connection for over two years. Suddenly last week, I get a "Limited or no connectivity" error whenever I try to connect to the network, and now I can't access the Internet or anything. I didn't change my system at all. I updated to SP2 months and months ago, so I don't think that's the problem. Whenever I click "Repair," my computer cannot renew an IP address. I tried the Winsockfix and Microsoft patch 884020, but nothing has worked. I also uninstalled ZoneAlarm and checked for viruses and adware, but nothing's shown up.

Can someone be my new savior and help me out? I've spent hours on this!

Identi-Filter: How bad is it that I'm walking around with an expired driver's license? So my Oregon driver's license expired recently and now I'm wondering how a big a deal this is. I have a friend who carries her passport around with her because her license is expired (apparently some bar bouncers won't let her in with an expired ID). I think this is a pretty big risk since getting your passport stolen is pretty much the worst thing ever. However, what kinds of risks am I running by having this, my primary piece of identification, exist in an expired state?

The facts:
*I'm not driving, so no worries there.
*I'm moving to WA in about 2 months where I will change my residency to that state
*The driver's license picture is from when I was 15 (currently 24) and was renewed once with a sticker (that is now fading, as is the signature).

-Should I look into getting a NY State ID card?
-When I apply for WA residency, how much of a head ache is it going to be to have an expired OR license?

Just got fired from my teaching gig... need directions to somewhere cool. I graduated college last year with a poli sci degree, just spent a year teaching social studies at my old high school and love(d) it. I found out yesterday they won't be renewing my contract due to pretty strong philosophical differences I have with the administration.

I don't know what to do or where to go now. I'm very open to teaching high school again and the Pacific Northwest or Australia/New Zealand are on my mind... it seems like a great chance to get out my hometown. I want to be somewhere relatively urban (in a bike-able and cultural way) yet laid back and open to mavericks and free-thinkers. Somewhere where trends aren't so deeply imbedded into the culture and where someone can just kinda walk in and fit in pretty quickly. San Francisco, Eugene, and Portland are high on my domestic list.

I was thinking of continuing with my summer travel plans by buying a Greyhound pass then hopping around the Pacific Northwest dropping in resumes...

I've got awesome letters of recogmendation from the other teachers and head of the department... Any ideas on what I should do? Where should I go? How to get a job across the oceans or country? What's the first step in getting out of the seas of ambiguity?

This is a very open-ended thread... just suggestions for someone with no other skills than writing, thinking about things, knowing about things, and getting things done when motivated, and taking pictures of garbage cans.

Escape from New England

Inspired by this thread and informed by this thread, I've decided that I definitely need to run away from home. I've been in New England all my life, and I have close to zero experience with the rest of the country. Specific questions inside (covering topics such as Virginia, Oregon, commercial radio stations, and being young and looking for good nightlife). I'm in my mid-twenties, and I'm finally ready to run away from massachusetts.

This is my ideal situation:

-There will be a wide variety of apartments available (perhaps I'd even share a place with a stranger -- college town style).
-Great social opportunities and nightlife including arts, music and food.
-Good commercial radio. A station or group of stations that has something good going on (Not even necessarily from a programming standpoint -- locally owned, a budget to hire people and do interesting promotions, etc).
-Openminded community, in general. (Liberal/Gay friendly).
-Not a HUGE city. Smaller than Boston.
-Bigger than a small town.
-Sometimes it snows, but when it does it doesn't last long.

Any ideas?
