Cheat like a fox.

I have always been really bad at really simple games, like the ones where there are generally sound mathematical strategies for playing the optimal game. I'd like to compile a little mental rolodex of simple games and their solutions so I can feel smugly superior to any small children who seek to challenge me. [more inside]

Help! I'm going to be hit with an enormous number of visitors and my iWeb website makes dumb .png decisions!

Is there any way to make iWeb name my image files something other than shapeimage_1.png, shapeimage_2.png, etc? Alternately, is there any way to make iWeb reuse images instead of reloading a copy of each image for every page it's on? [more inside]

Disagreement with co-web developer about speed difference of height and width specified in image tags as opposed to in the css

I am having a disagreement with a co-web developer I'm working with. He's insisting that having image width and height specified for images in the image tags is going to make an enormous difference in how fast this database driven site will render, while I feel that having the height and width called in the css for these images is enough. The site is very fast. [more inside]

Firefox Plug-in similar to Apple's Spaces?

Are there any plug-ins for Firefox similar to the concept of "spaces" on Apple Leopard? For those not familiar with Spaces, I'm looking for a plug-in that will optimize my Firefox browser for different tasks, in other words, show certain bookmarks, plug-ins, etc.. while hiding others, depending on what task I'm doing at the time. Perhaps I have one set of plug-ins and bookmarks just for business tasks and another for entertainment, etc... This would be of GREAT benefit to me. I'm sure you all know how cluttered a browser can get when you do a lot of internet activities.

How do I rearrange my data to make the best use of a new hard drive?

So, I got a new 320GB internal ATA hard drive, hooked it up as a slave to my 80GB hard drive, and put all my video, music, and photos on the new 320GB drive. Then, problems arise: when I'm downloading things onto the new drive (via BitTorrent), the computer stutters and is generally slow. Also, when opening and saving photos (~300MB TIFFs) in Photoshop, it takes an eternity. Is there a better way to configure my system on the hard drives? [more inside]

Setting up a huge database

I'm about to set up a database (pet science project) that has about 200 million records consisting of about 50 mostly-numeric fields. Is mysql up to this task? If not, what is? And since many fields are null, how can it be optimized to consume the least possible disk space? I'm worried about bloat eating up my 100 GB drive.
